Dell 5000e Broken USB

I made the mistake of all mistakes. I let my kid brother use the Dell 5000e that my uncle gave me. He broke the USB connector on the back.

I have been told I need to replace the motherboard to fix that, which I cannot afford. A friend offered to give me her old USB 2.0 PCI card and software.

Would this work for me?

Do I have to disable the broken connector in the 5000e so there is no conflict?

A PCI card is for a desktop - you would need a PCMCIA card. That will work and net you USB 2.0 at the same time.

The boards cost about $130:

Right... it is the one that goes into the slot on the side of the 5000e so I guess it is the PCMCIA card.

So if that will work, what else do I have to do to avoid the system wanting to use the one that is broken, the pins are bent, and the piece of plastic that was in the usb is gone.

Oh I forgot, please excuse my rudeness. Thank you so much for your quick reply.

Nothing needs to be done with the onboard port - it will not conflict with the ones on the PCMCIA card.
