Dell D820 no boot - num lock flashes
Turning the Dell D820 on results in no boot, black screen. Holding the Fn key causes the num lock to blink (left most LED) and the other 2 remain lit.
Can not find an error code on Dell's website or Google. Any thoughts? Is this computer dead?
One time I got it to boot by pressing Fn and it ran that Diagnostic test. Found no errors. Then it says press OK to reboot and I reboot and back to useless black screen and can't even get to the same diagnostics./
Help please

Hi there,
I'm very sorry that no-one has responded before now - the Dell Community Forums are primarily for user to user self help, however I can only apologise that no staff member responded before now.
The error code that you are receiving is listed as a system board error so it may be the case that the motherboard needs replacing. If a customer called into Technical Support with this issue, we would advise that they remove the following:
1) Battery
2) Hard Drive
3) Optical Drive/Media Bay Peripheral
4) Any ExpressCards/PC Cards attached to the system.
5) All external peripherals
6) All memory from the system
7) Bluetooth module (if installed)
8) Any WWAN/WLAN network cards (if installed)
9) LCD panel cable to the motherboard
Before attempting this, please make sure that the AC adapter is not connected and that you have taken anti-static precautions. To do these steps, please follow the manual here:
<ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>
Once you have removed these components, attach the AC adapter and press the power button microswitch that is part of the keyboard. Check the Lock LEDs (from left to right - Num Lock, Caps Lock, Scroll Lock) for any flashing or solid LEDs. If you see any change in the Lock LEDs light sequence, add parts back in one at a time, checking the light sequence each time. If there is no change, the motherboard is likely faulty and would need replaced.
Hope that helps but if you need any further assistance with steps, please let me know.
