Dell INSPIRON 14 Audio problem in Linux Ubuntu

I have no experience with Linux, But I've always wanted to use & learn it. So I've installed Ubuntu 12.10 in my New Dell INSPIRON 14 N4050 Laptop. Everything seems to work fine... But I am totally confused about the Drivers in Linux. I've no Driver CD, but sound seems to work well in Windows 7 but other drivers require installation... And in Ubuntu other things work well, but Sound is missing.

Anyways in Linux Ubuntu, Bluetooth is working good, Wifi is being detected well & I'm already using it. But Sound doesn't work.... Can anybody please help me with this issue?

Also I'm not sure how many other things are not working here excluding the Audio. So, If any experts are around, please Link me to a good guide where it describes how to make everything work and configure correctly after Installing Linux in that Dell Laptop Model. I'd really appreciate that.

Thank you.

I have no experience with it either. You might get some help on our Linux forum. They have a Linux FAQ that doesn't have any specific info but does have links to other forums with instructions and guides. One of them has a Ubuntu forum area just for absolute beginners and another has a 255 page guide to Linux.

My sound card finally starts to work after edit '50-sound.conf' on my Inspiron 14R 3437-A45.

I'm using Opensuse 13.1.

No drivers are necessary. Just follow steps bellow:

  1. start a terminal
  2. turn into root (type: 'su root')
  3. now, from terminal, navigate into /etc/modprobe.d/
  4. type 'ls' and check a file 'sound.conf' or something like this (maybe different for your linux distro). In debian based the conf file name maybe alsa-base.conf
  5. edit the file with a pure text editor like nano, vim, gedit, mousepad, kwite etc
  6. edit or insert (if does not exist) this line in your file:
    1. options snd-hda-intel model=laptop
