Dell studio 1557 mainboard replacement

Hello everyone,

I have had my Dell studio 1557 (out of warranty) broken with the screen is totally black whenever I turn the laptop on. I brought my laptop to some IT technicians for checking. They concluded that it was a problem with the mainboard due to overheating and it needs to be replaced.

Could you please instruct me how to get my laptop fixed by replacing the mainboard? Who should I contact (in Belgium where I live or in Europe) to order a new mainboard and how much does it cost (estimated price)?

Thank you in advance!

Try a Google search -- or Ebay.

Thanks ejn63. $200 is affordable for me and my friend can help me to replace the mainboard.

Could you please instruct me where can I find a new mainboard for my laptop?

If you can replace the board yourself, it may make sense - you can probably find one for $200 or so.  If you have to pay to have the board replaced, the total cost will exceed $300 (or equivalent) - close to half what a new system will cost.  For that you'll get at best a 90-day warranty.  This system is likely over three years old and unless you can replace the board yourself, is better replaced than repaired.

Hi Tucurie,

To know about the cost of part replacement, you may contact local technical support in Belgium, you may refer to the link: http://dell.to/1deKIhr.

Hope this helps. Please feel free to reply for any further assistance.

Hi,

I''m located in Canada, Vancouver and I have exactly the same problem with my Dell Studio 1557.

I'd like to change the motherboard with one that is having the heating problem fixed.

Would you please recommend me a place where I can order a motherboard?

I found this one, but I'm not sure that is genuine http://www.pchub.com/uph/laptop/64-85409-15576/Dell-Studio-1557-Main-Board-Motherboard-.html

If there is a Dell shop where I can do it locally, please recommend that too.

Thanks,
Luc

It's funny, myself and quite a few other people have had the motherboard shot on the Studio 15 recently...I half wonder if they weren't ticking time bombs. All seemed to die in the same time frame. Out of the 3 year warranty, of course -_-

Luc, that motherboard above includes no CPU, just to make sure you know and weren't lured by the low price. You'd have to buy one separately.

Tx for the treplay Tipoo; indeed, there is no CPU coming with that motherboard, but I suppose I can remove it from the old one and put it in the new one.

I still wait for a replay from Dell people.

Related to this model at least, I heard only bad opinions, it is a faulty product.

I trust at least Dell would provide adequate information from where to buy another genuine motherboard.
