The Device Manager/ACPI uninstall did not work. I tried everything. The only thing that worked was the BIOS rollback.

although this is a very old post, I had the same issue. New battery, new charger, both purchased aftermarket on ebay. neither are an actual dell product, and so I paid $16 for the cherger, $20 couple for the battery. Reverting to a09 has solved it for Me,  so far anyway. Battery arrived at 65%, it's almost at 80%now.

if that link is specific to My search, and doesn't work, simply look for the bios driver, select "older version" and download the a09.

I have had the same problem. Purchased a $1600.00 custom XPS in 2009. I didn't contact Dell about the issue. I, instead, found that replacing the power supply was an easy/ hassle free fix. To my dismay, I have had to replace the power supply twice now in the span of 1.5 years :(

When I try flashing my bios to A09 an error pops up saying to reboot, try again, contact tech help, application error return 0x00000207. How do I prevent that so I can flash the bios back?

Shelbina,

Dont flash your bois back to flash A09, that just a bandaid. Check the charge board and the power adapter first and you will fix your problem. For your refrence, The OEM dell chargers communicate with the laptop. The charger will power up the laptop but not charge it if either the chargers communication chip goes bad  which is built into the charger or the charge board in the laptop goes bad. Either way you can replace either one. My case it turned out to be the charger board in the laptop which you can pick up on ebay for 7 to 8 bucks. You can check the power adapter by testing the adapter in another dell laptop if you have the opportunity. if it charges there, then most likely it is the board in the laptop, if it dosent charge the other laptop, then it is obviously the charger. Good luck.

Search: DC Power Jack I recently had the same "battery not charging" problem with my Dell Studio 1749. Laptop worked fine while plugged in, but anytime I removed the AC adaptor it completely shut down. After a month of ordering and testing new batteries and AC adaptors, updating the Bios, running Dell diagnostics, and a lot of internet research and futile attempts to fix the issue, I finally narrowed it down to a motherboard issue (eek) or the DC power jack. I found PHX CPU Repair (that's Phoenix CPU Repair for anyone in the Phoenix, Arizona area) and their website had a page that described my issues exactly. I contacted them and sure enough after replacing the DC power jack my battery was up and charging again. Just thought I would share because it took me quite a while on my own (as well as in ill-fated trip to a horrible local repair center) to figure out the issue and I could have saved some money if I had known to search "DC power jack" and find a repair center that could deal with that issue. It did cost me more to have that repaired then say replacing the battery, but having talked to the repair guy and seeing the part, I think I could have done it myself had I been positive what the issue was from the beginning. Good luck to all with similar issues.

Just a verification, downgrading my system's BIOS to A09 fixed the issue.

My system (XPS M1530) had had this issue since we bought it. During the warranty period, the motherboard and battery was both replaced - and Dell had refused to replace the charger and had even gone as far as telling us we were using an unauthorized 3rd party charger (we weren't). We had the option to send it back to get the whole system replaced, but my parents had pictures and files on the device and it was the only computer they had so chose not to. Finally, it was put away after they bought a desktop.

After sitting in storage for years, I pulled the device out of storage and found this thread after some Google'in. I used my Alienware's plug (which conveniently isn't shaped like a normal desktop plug) to charge it to 10% and downgraded the BIOS. Switched back to the original (now slightly damaged from being bent) charger, and it immediately started charging the laptop.

In the BIOS, it still shows as "Unknown" but it does charge. Beautiful device to use with Windows 10 if you have the Fingerprint sensor installed - a few drivers to download and update makes it run smoother than Vista did.

same here. All you have to do is disconnect AC from power adaptor for 10 sec, reconnect and battery starts charging again.

Easy fix - went to Dell Support and it said you probably hit the function key with F2 which disabled the charging function.  Do it again and it will reverse it.
