Disable hyperthreading in an Inspiron 6000...?

Hello,

I have a question along the lines of disabling hyperthreading. Forgive my newb-ness, but how do I disable hyperthreading in the BIOS with a Dell Inspiron 6000? Someone said it isn't possible...when I tried the processor was "locked"...any help?

I am trying to disable hyperthreading to run the program, Pro Tools LE 6.7. Whenever I click the icon, I get this error message:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

An attempt was made to execute non-executable memory.

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need. If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing (how do I do that?) If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press f8 to select advanced startup options, and then select safe mode.

Technical information:

*** STOP: 0x000000FC (0x19806163, 0xF10D288C, 0x00000001)

Beginning dump of physical memory

Physical memory dump complete.

Contat your system admin or technical support group for further assistance.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Has anyone seen this error message before? If so, what steps do I take to successfully load my program? Thanks ahead of time.

-Gary

The Pentium mobile CPU in your 6000 does not support hyperthreading.

Excuse my ignorance, but does that mean that hyperthreading is ALREADY disabled...or that I can't adjust the hyperthreading settings...?

Is there a way to get around that if the hyperthreading settings are locked? Thanks.

The CPU does not support hyperthreading and as such HT is disabled and cannot be enabled!

I have read that disabling HT will nessisatate a reinstall of the OS! I am not sure about this just a heads up....

Thanks for the input Fred but in this particular case the Pentium M does not have on die hyperthreading capability so that you cannot enable it.

Thanks for the imput, I (hopefully) have one last question...
The error message recommended that I "Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press f8 to select advanced startup options, and then select safe mode. "

How do I do that? What are the drawbacks of disabling caching or shadowing? Thanks

Unfortunately your Dell laptop BIOS does not have those user options.

Hi Gary - found your note when trying to find the answer to the same problem - attempting to install LE 6.7 on an Inspiron 6000! I get the same message. Did you solve it?
