Echo Indigo IOx freezes Studio XPS 1647

An Echo Indigo IOx ExpressCard sound card is making my Studio XPS 1647 freeze whenever I try to use it.  I am attempting to run VinylStudio or Audacity with this card.  I've tried disabling all other sound devices in the Windows 7 Professional Device Manager and running the software as an administrator.  That seems to help, but there are still actions (like adjusting the output level with the IOx Console program while a recording is being played back) that freeze the system.  Echo pointed me to their latest driver, 8.6.4.  Any suggestions?  Is the onboard sound chip good enough for recording vinyl that I don't need an external sound card?

Oh yeah.  When the system boots the BIOS reports an error and stops, "Resource Conflict - PCI in slot 0A, Bus: 05, Device: 00, Function: 00".  I can still press F1 and it boots OK.

BTW, I see that two devices are associated with this card in Device Manager.  One is the card itself, with its Echo driver, and the other is a PCI Bridge with a Microsoft driver.

I sure wish that I had gone with a USB DAC/ADC.

In VinylStudio, try unchecking 'Use WASAPI' in the Check Level dialog.  That sometimes helps with problems like this.  Other than that, it does sound like a driver issue that only Echo can resolve.
