Headphone jack not working
Hi,
I have recently purchased my Inspiron 15R 5521 and had to format it for some reason. The audio is perfectly fine in speaker mode. However when my headphone or earphone is attached to the audio jack, the volume still remains in speaker mode. This problem didn't occur earlier before I had to format my system. Hence I believe my audio drive version is fine and that something must be wrong with the setting. Again, it's just a guess.
Kindly help with this headphone audio issue. Thanks!!

Hello. A current audio driver Realtek 6.0.1.6788 A03 is buggy --fails to sense headphones plugged in the jack after a restart. The previous version works okay, Realtek 6.0.1.6690
This affects these Inspiron models: 15 3521, 15R 5521, 17 3721, 17R 5721, and also Vostro 2521
To install the older driver first remove the current one. Open the Device Manager and expand "Sound, video and game controllers". Right click on the Realtek and select to uninstall. Put a check mark in the option to delete the files, and then ok. When you reboot, Windows will either install its own native driver or another Realtek driver if there were any other versions on the hard drive. So go back to the Device Manager and check for a Realtek driver. Keep uninstalling & rebooting until Realtek no longer appears under Sound Controllers. When you see "High Definition Audio Device" (the native Windows driver) in place of "Realtek", download and install the older Realtek 6.0.1.6690 driver.

To check for that, test using the native Windows driver.
When you see "High Definition Audio Device", that is the native Windows driver.
If the headphone jack works correctly while using that driver then you do not have a hardware failure. If it still does not work even with the native driver, try other headphones. If no luck then probably it is the hardware.
