I8600 or 600m

My Inspiron get about 4.5 hours off the standard battery, using it while taking notes and surfing the web wirelessly the whole time.

Oh and for the 600m why get XGA it's huge ALL THE TEXT AND ICONS are huge. HUGE!!! get the SXGA+

dad has a D600 (:PM 1.7 512MB 60GB SXGA) and i know i can play UT2004 at 800x600 reasonablly well...

The batteries are different sizes.  A car adapter for one should work with the other.  I can't speak for the 8600, but the Latitude D600 (same as Inspiron 600m) is quite good on battery -- you'll get 3-4 hours out of a full charge, depending on what you're doing.

 

That's not a good comparison cause that 600m isn't all that great and you selected much better parts for the 8600. If you get a 600m i would suggest the 64MB Graphics and atleast 512 ram!!!!

well, its all refirb... wehy isnt thwe 600m that great? and i have had a XGA for myu last 3 laptops, anyhitng more is straining

Ok well in that case just get the 64MB if you want to play new games if not get that one and you'll be happy!!!

the battery in the D600 are compatible in the 600m right? and im going to stick with the 32MB unless i can find a refirb that hs a 64... i need a refirb... unless ican get a new one for 1400ish with a 3yr warrenty

Keyboard is firm(not the best but very good) the screen is a little flimsy like you move it and it will still wiggle alittle but only if your pushing or pulling on the laptop but it doesnt crack all that easily(not to my knowledge). BUT BE VERY CAREFUL WITH LIQUIDS I SPILLED water in my screen and it slowly repaired itself (over like 2weeks) SO BE VERY VERY CAREFUL WITH LIQUIDS!!! I havn't had flickering video and never heard of the problem so i can't answer that part

The battery is compatible with both and you can still play modern day games on the 32MB but be prepared to lower settings and not be able to play all of the next few years games.

im actually upgrading from a 2500+M with SHARED IGP GRAPHICS (screw any gaming cept the origional UT)


does the 600m really have all of tese problems i amreading on CNET or ZDNET? like flimsy keyboard, eaisly cracked screens, video flickering? i know the D600 isnt but does the 600m?

I haven't experienced any of the problems you reference.  My 600m is very light and portable, yet quite powerful.  I highly recommend it ...

If you had to reccomend another system, what would it be (non-dell)

Unfortunately, the battery is onyl covered by a 1 yr warranty, despite the system's warranty.

Honestly, I would not recommend any other system than Dell. Dell truly gives the complete bang for the buck w/ this system.

Hmm, i haven't heard of that before, but it is possible. However, in that case, Dell will replace the defective part under the warranty. I would strongly recommend that you get the NBD 3 Yr. Onsite Service and Support and also, I would recommend you to pass on the Complete Care. Basically, complete care is just an "insurance" for your laptop, and that if you spill something on your laptop, or any accidental damage will be covered. Just buy an insurance policy at state farm or somethign, which will be cheaper, and they will replace your notebook if something happens to it.
