Inaccessible Boot Device Error in Latitude C400

Hello everybody,

I'm new to this forum . I have searched everywhere i know for an answer but i'm out of ideas. I have a Latitude C400 that a friend of mine bought on E-bay. It had a bad hard drive when i got it. I bought a new Western Digital Scorpio 40Gb hard drive from Tiger Direct for it. My problem is that i put Windows Xp Professional on the hard drive, but when i boot it up after the install it stops at a blue screen that says inaccessible boot device. It doesnt have a Cd rom or floppy drive. I used an adapter to hook the hard drive to my desktop computer. The laptop has a Pentium III M processor, and 256 mb's of ram. Don't really know what else to tell you, i'll try to answer as many questions as i can. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

Hi,

I would load it again, with the disk in the C400. You will need a Latiude " C " series CD drive, and a 3G265 IDE cable. You cant boot from USB, so no use buying a USB drive. Loading the disk in another type of machine will have loaded wrong drivers, and is not likely to work properly.

                                                                     Regards Chris
