Inspiron 1525- 1526, Touchpad, Mouse or Keyboard Issues Fixed

hi all. i'm new to dell forum. i'm here to show you how to fix inspiron 1525 -1526 touchpad and keyboard issues. some of you experience the touchpad acting up crazy, cursor jumping from one side of screen to the other, etc. some of you experience  the keyboard working sometimes, and others  experience that keyboard types by it self, etc. now put everything back together. or test your touchpad before you put everything back. if you need to apply more tape  behind the touchpad cable. please do! you should now enjoy using your laptop with no problems. note: your keyboard should now work fine. touchpad problem made the keyboard  useless. since now touchpad is fixed, your keyboard should work fine. if it doesn't, please apply the same technique attaching tape to the end of the keyboard cable.

I was a little confused at the step right after you cut the rectangular strip in the tape. I couldn't see where that rectangular cut fit in. What am I missing?

Thanks for your fix. I had same problems with my touchpad of my inspiron 1525 for quite a while and was using an external mouse (only the right and left click buttons of touchpad were working). Came accross your fix, tried it but it did not work. Changed the tape a few times thinking I am not placing it correctly. Even put on a third layer as another member suggested. Touchpad still didn't work. But after opening and putting back the keyboard so many times now I am having problems with the keyboard.  Now my 3, 4, 5, e, r, t, d, f, g, c, v, b keys don't work. Tried moving and packing the keyboard cable with tape but looks like the connections are still not making right contacts. If I lift the keyboard in air at a certain angle when the cable is either pulled or pushed then the keys work sometime, but when I seat the keyboard back they don't work. I just gave up and guess I'll have to replace the keyboard or dump the laptop altogether. Any suggestions?

Hello everyone I have been having this problem around a month now. I have an extended warranty so to be fair to dell they have done very well in trying to resolve my problem. Since reporting the problem. I have had 3 new motherboards, 3 new touchpads a new ac adapter and cd drive. None of these has sorted the problem what so ever. Its getting to a point where its rediculous there replacing every part in the laptop more than 3 times is a joke. I paid for added warranty and I want a new laptop

I have tried this fix without success so far. I have even tried a new touchpad assembly with a different ribbon. I think the problem goes further than a loose connection.

Thanks, everyone for the help, much appreciated!!  Well, the technical manual nor the service manual show the touchpad cable system (keyboard yes, but touchpad, nope), but I'm pretty sure I have the location of the touchpad cable figured out. And it's a brand new laptop, and although it could certainly be a defective touchpad, I now think it's something else. My "client" is my daughter, and as I couldn't repro the issue, I was relying on what she said, namely, that the touchpad was crazy. But what she really meant to tell me is that the KEYBOARD misses keystrokes when she's using IE8, esp. the backspace key when the processor gets to a certain point.

There seem to be two different problems on the Internet one about crazy touchpads and the other about crazy keyboards. With touchpads, the cable connection needs padding. But after watching my daughter reproduce the issue, I think we have this problem instead - "The problem is a "stutter" in the keyboard response. You can almost see the cursor blinking at a slower and somewhat random pace once you begin typing. Even the space bar and backspace keys are affected. It was taking me minutes to respond correctly within an instant messenger when it should have taken seconds."

Thread is here, hilarious read if you have the time :emotion-2: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/InternetExplorer/thread/3fe689fd-601f-4988-b97a-f1678d3f4d16

I've done a lot of stuff they suggested in the article, and it seems to be resolved, but I'm guessing not really, I think we just haven't pegged the processor enough yet. When she goes back to college and downloads videos and does her homework online same time (one teacher requires you to use IE and not Mozilla), this may show up again. And I'm posting it here because someone who still has the issue may be benefited by this thread.

Thanks for your instruction! It's quite useful, I understand this part, It is just the solution for my problem.

Great post! PeruRican, please see the email and private message I have sent.

Wanted to clear up one thing about the warranty: It does NOT void your warranty if you open the laptop up and make modifications. The only time your warranty would be voided would be if any modifications you make to the system cause damage. We would classify that as customer induced damage and would not warrant repairs.

This is what I'm looking for, I got more deep understanding about this part, Nice writing, Thanks for your analysis!

Just tried this, but no luck.  There was already a large and very thick piece of blue tape on the back of my connector (they must have discovered this problem at some point) and the contacts had significant dents in them, indicating plenty of pressure.  I put a little deoxit contact cleaner on, but absolutely no difference.  In my case, the touchpad works ok for about five minutes, then it seems to not notice it is being touched.  Randomly.  Linux and Windows both.  Guess I'm stuck with an external mouse.

I have always used an external mouse and have had the jumping around for the last year or so.  My touchpad does not heat up and I do not touch it, yet it still jumps around.  At first I thought I had a virus of some sort but after running everything I could think of and then searching for thsi problem elsewhere it continued.

I guess I will try this and see what happens.  Its funny how I find this apparent fix and now my cursor hasnt jumped once while typing this out.

PERURICAN,

How delicate are the ribbons for the mouse pad? After pulling down the release latch, I attempted to remove the cable end. The adhesive on the black pull strip just came right off. Is it ok to gently use needle nose pliers to remove the cable? It appears to be in there pretty snug and I don't want to damage anything.

Thank you for your quick response.

>Is it ok to gently use needle nose pliers to remove the cable?

Yes, but the keyword is GENTLY.  When the latch is released, it should require almost no force to remove the cable.  If it requires force of any kind, then the latch is not completely released.

>It appears to be in there pretty snug and I don't want to damage anything.

Sounds like the latch isn't completely released.  Play around with the latch a bit and see if you can get the cable looser.

Good luck!

Hello,

I have this problem although the cursor behaviour seems like the problem may be due to overclocking. How can I determine if thisis the problem before tearing into the laptop? Thank you.

maybe you are right because I tried the tape fix twice and it did not help. The directions for the fix were great and easy to follow but I took the laptop apart twice and did exactly what they said and it was no help. the second time I opened it up I added more tape to make it thicker. Still no good. My problem is when typing in word, email or any program the cursor constantly jumps to somewhere else in the letter causing mistakes, deletions of sentences etc etc.  It is so frustrating I am ready to throw the laptop out the window. I keep thinking it is software but it happens in any program.
