Inspiron 6400 battery problem
Hello everyone,
I have had an Inspiron 6400 for about 18 months now and recently I have noticed that the battery meter says 16 % (fully charged) when the power lead is plugged in and does not go above that. Can anyone tell me if this would be a battery fault or a charger fault.
My wife has told me that she thinks it charges when it is switched off and plugged in but i dont know if it does for sure yet.

It could be either. The battery is likely near the end of its life, but if it's not showing symptoms of failure (flashing amber LED), try a new charger first - next would be the battery, and if neither of those fixes the problem, it's the power jack or the mainboard that is faulty.

So it looks like there seems to be a problem with all the laptops and the power adapters??? I have THREE different model Dell Laptops and I'm down to ONE power adapter that works.
I've read the forums, and it looks like this problem is one that is well documented.
Is there no RECALL on these adapters?
Doesn't this mean there is a design flaw in them?
Are we just supposed to keep buying new ones?
And just this weekend, after only 18 months, my very expensive car adapter died on me as well. Is there another company that makes power adapters that fit Dell Computers? Ones that actually LAST more than a year?
