Inspiron 6400 flaking out?

 Hi,

I just upgraded the memory on my now 6 month old inspiron 6400 from 1Gb to 2Gb (2x 1gb) PC5300 Corsair memory. I'm mentioning it because it may or not be related although I highly doubt so.

It was working fine over the past couple of weeks. However, yesterday evening, the laptop made a horrible screeking noise that sounded like it came from the hard drive and crashed. At that point I rebooted it and ran chkdsk and rebooted and everything seemed fine.

Today, I was using it and at some point, the screen started flickering randomly.

I was wondering if anybody's had any "stability" issues with these models. It's proven great so far and it's never been dropped or anything like that so I'm just wondering if there are any overall connectivity problems or anything.

I switched back to the original memory just to see if it's going to happen again. I will give it a few days and see if it happens again and see if I should be checking in with the memory people or with Dell in case it's a general problem with the board (which I'm starting to suspect by the HD problem I had first and now the screen problem).

Anyways, any feedback regarding similar issues would be greatly appreciated.

 Thanks,

 Greg

I have crucial 2x1024MB SODimms in my laptop and they do make a high pitched noise when theres a large load on them such as gaming. You may have a defective module which would crash the computer, mess up video, and a bunch of other stuff.
