Inspiron 7720 - E drive just about ready to quit

​I have a 7720 with the E drive close to being shot. I can hear the actuator arm clicking. I have a replacement drive but since the E drive has a Systems Volume file on it - I can never delete this file. Since that file remains when I boot the laptop with a new drive it comes back and says their is no OS? I was hoping I could delete everything off of the E drive the do a simple replace. What do I need to do to replace this drive?​
