Insprion 2500 problems and questions.

Question

I have a model - PP02L  Inspiron I2500    First the problem, I bought this and it had win 2k i started to put xp on it and it will never make it more than 50-60% through the install befor it locks up. Whats causeing it to lockup, is there a issue with xp on this pc?   My question is what are the complete specs of the laptop i think it ones of the newer versions of the series it has ethernet onboard where i read other needed a card all i know for sure about it is its a p3 800mhz and 128mb ram the rest is a mystery. Also what is the max updrades i can add ram,cpu and can the grfx card be changed? Thanks alot.

Thanks for the ram max. So 128 aint enough so i guess ill go with 2k till i get a 512 stick. So was there sevral vesrions of the 2500 model using google ive seen many diffrent componets. RAM can (and should; 128M is not sufficient for XP) go to 512M.

The CPU isn't worth upgrading; you can't go much further.

The graphics cannot be upgraded at all.

Have you run the Dell diagnotics on the hard drive?

Ok, for now till i can get more ram i formatted and re installed win 2k. Now it seems every time i install somthing new it locks up right afterwards or a little bit later. Im also getting random crashes time to time in the last few hours about 3 random since install just about 4 hours ago.

Seems ive ran into a problem i use a cable modem that uses ethernet and the onboard ethernet dont work. I downloaded the driver 82558 from driverguide.com since i could't find it on the dell page and it replaced the driver win2k had set but it still dosent work. In the device manager it has the yellow exclamation mark still and i cant get it online. Any ideas to fix this? Thanks.

Me again seem when i let the laptop sit and not in use it will lock up. From experiance when i have to shut down a system over and over the os eventually encounters problems and crashes over time and i want to avoid this. Is 128 mb enough to run win2k with no problems? Right now im on my old L500cx wirh 192 mb ram running xp and never locks up on me.   Also is there anything i can do to keep it running all the time even if i close the lid as im using this at home on the powercoard not by battery and i want it to work like its a desk top. Thanks.

Ok can someone please help me out here, Windows 2000 service pack 1, 128mb ram, 10gb hd, p3 800mhz. Im having problems and i cant get any help, Its locking up unexpected and sometimes the ether net is avalible and sometimes it aint its very frustrating.Can Someone please help?
