Integrated Webcam not working on Inspiron 1545

The integrated webcam on my laptop isn't working. I don't think it ever was. I discovered that I am missing the driver for it, so I went to the dell website and tried to download it. Near the end of the download I get an error message that says "an error occured when setting up the driver". Then it goes on like everything went right but the driver wasn't installed. I am frustrated because I got this laptop to communicate with my family this summer while i am in China. I have yet to be able to use skype to talk with them. Please help me out! I am willing to try anything. I have already tried to use a usb mouse to no avail. I can't find it in my device manager and i have an error message saying that "USB Device not Recognized" and that it has malfunctioned with out anything plugged into it. When I click on the message and do a bit of searching it seems to be linked to my virus protection, Kapersky but I can't be sure. Is there anything I can do short of going out and buying a new webcam? I would really like to just fix the exsisting one.

I have the exact same problem. Inspiron 1545 on Windows 7. None of the solutions online work. No one to help. And I'm overseas. Argh.

That's the "Answer", lets make a collective demand, I just claim compensation, I got a product that doesn't work!!!

"Thank you so much for clarifying your concern. Please accept our apologies for the delay in responding, we have been having problems with our mailbox routing software which resulted in your mail being routed to the wrong mailbox. It has only just been passed back to the correct mailbox.

I have checked your system as well as the drivers available for your system and unfortunately, DELL doesn't have a Windows 7 64-bit webcam driver. The only drivers that are available this time are Windows XP and Vista. Unfortunately, we are unable to give a date for the updated driver for the system. I recommend that you regularly check the drivers online by visit support.euro.dell.com.

As for the replacement webcam driver that you have found, unfortunately DELL is unable to confirm if this will work nor advising customer to use the driver. DELL will not be responsible if you have used unauthorized or 3rd party drivers.

Again, I apologize if we are unable to supply you the driver at this time.

Kind Regards,
Gian

Any time you install the operating system, please make sure to install the drivers in order.

The desktop/notebook utility and the chipset drivers need to be installed first, or the rest of the drivers will fail to install. How to Install Drivers in Microsoft® Windows® on Dell Systems If you cannot find the drivers for Windows 7, then try using the Vista (or XP) drivers and install them in the Compatibility mode

After installing all the drivers in order, then you can try using the Dell Webcam disk that came with the computer to install it. You can also go to Drivers & Downloads and download the webcam drivers/software, under input device drivers. Install the drivers in the Compatibility mode

I do have Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and the webcam software is install and working. I used the Dell Webcam Disk that cam with my computer to install it.

I just got a new hard drive installed and needed to install Dell Webcam Central. I used the drivers and the instructions at...

Installing Dell Webcam Central

Dell Webcam Central (drivers/software)

Double click on R230103, then click on unzip.

Hit the Windows key and the R keys at the same time. type

C:\dell\drivers\R230103

Hit enter. Look for the setup file, right click on it, then left click run as administrator.

It installed on my Dell XPS L501x with no problems.

The drivers are not unzipping on their own, so you have to go in and run the setup as administrator.

hey i had the same exact problem for months, and i just noticed patterns about it over time and now i figured out something that's worked consistently....the webcam works wen the laptop starts, but if the lid is ever closed and it goes to sleep, the webcam wont work wen u try to use it...like it flashes for a second then cuts off....what i do now is i go to device manager and disable then re-enable the cam...i've noticed that if i keep the device manager open while i open the dell webcam central, the webcam works again...if i close the device manager and open dell webcam, it does not work....so idk, i've been looking online for weeks looking for some way to fix it...uninstalled and reinstalled the software, drivers everything, noting ever worked..hopefully this helps u guys

fkucdaw0rld,

Try reading the article below. I have some information I keep updating there. The link to Dell's website may also be helpful. The solution in red words has helped many, so it might be what you're looking.

PudgyOne,

You seem to know what you are talking about so I'm hoping you can help me.  I have an Inspiron 1564 with Windows 7 and an integrated webcam, I've been sent in circles with Dell support and troubleshooting so many times I'm dizzy.

The webcam works with Skype but will not work on web pages like Pinger.com/textfree. I've tried upgrading the drivers. I've tried deleting the driver and rebooting. I've looked in device manager and it shows up there. I have no idea what the Dell Webcam Central is. When I tried to install it as suggested in Using and Troubleshooting the Dell Webcam and Dell Webcam Central Software, I clicked my account and got the following error message:

"Error Encountered

An error occurred while processing your request. Please try again. If you encounter any further problems with your shopping experience at Dell.com, please contact one of our trained sales representatives at 1-877-926-3355 to quickly complete your transaction."

(I love how they want to help you shop for new products but not fix the product you have.)

I've tried contacting dell but my warranty is expired and they won't let me live chat.

Ludwig8429,

Windows 7 is supposed to have the drivers for the webcam. Some models that have been upgraded to Windows 7, the Xp or Vista drivers work in the Compatibility mode

Best thing to read is the Using and Troubleshooting the Dell Webcam and Dell Webcam Central Software that I have listed. I try to keep this updated and the link in the article, named the same, goes to Dell's website with an article of thing to try.

Dell webcam Central is a program that you can add scenes, facial items, like hats, moustauches, sunglasses, become a baby, etc. It's not a needed program but it is fun to use when on Skype, Google+ Hangouts, etc.

I do not know what pinger.com/textfree is and not quite sure I want to install the program. I have Windows Live, AIM and Yahoo Messengers as well as Skype and have no webcam issues.

Yes, mine was under warranty and I sent it back, the report said that the webcam was replaced. Some time later I had the problem again and I found that the left hand hinge is the way of the cable that makes contact between the cam and the rest of the computer, some metallic gap was visible in the hinge, what I did was force the lid to close the gap, making the way clear for the cable and it did the job.  Try in yours , if it doesn't work make sure that the contacts are ok dismounting the screen as you can see in this video. (do it with love and care and only if you are sure that your drivers and software is fine)

The videos helped a lot.  I removed the wedcam, checked the connections and it works.  Thanks
