intel processor frequency id utility, speedswitch xp, i8kfangui...

Hiz ppl,

I've just installed these three applications and there seemed to be some very conflicting results..

I've changed my power setting to dynamic switching for both AC and battery in speedswitch xp. When i look at my current cpu speed in i8kfangui, the speed is 1600MHz, (this is calculated by asking the bios since if i were to put realtime calculation the program hangs). However, when i look under speedswitch xp, my current speed is 3056MHz, (this is calculated by realtime speed calculation). And when i look under intel processor frequency id utility, both my reported and expected frequency are 3.06GHz and my system bus is overclocked (1022 for reported frequency and 533 for expected frequency).. can anyone enlighten me here? i'm worried, and stumped..

I use the same programs and have never had the problems you have.  Although i know for a fact I8kFANGUI has a problem with HT cpus which i see from your specs you have.  Some people have even had to reboot there comps when they use it show current cpu speed so DONT DO IT!!!   Just use speedswitchxp for cpu speed and fangui for fan control and temp control and you can double check your cpu speed in system properties in Xp.  Joe

omniswitch250,

thanks for your reply, but my problem is actually the overclocking part which i derived from intel frequency id utility.. the speedswitch xp program always shows my cpu speed as 3056MHz and never any lower.. however, that conflicts with the figure shown in system properties, which is 1.59GHz.. so which figure is the right one?..

Depends on a couple of things.  What do you have speedswitchxp set to dynamic switching or full power? What are your idle temps when speedswitch shows your comp at full power? Also windows XP will show the wrong cpu speed depending on your bios(a bios upgrade fixed this now windows shows the correct speed) this was a known windows problem. Also from what I remember the Intel utility also showed that my cpu was overclocked so what? its a software glitch that program was probably not designed to properly give the specs to a mobile cpu.  I have long since got rid of that program its pretty useless.  Joe
