It just won't shut down without prompting

I have a 6000 and when I shut it down I have to request a shut down at least twice.  During this time numerous windows pop up saying that it is ending the ____ program.  It eventually shuts down but I have to hold it's hand to make it happen.  Any idea why this is happening?  Besides seperation anxiety - :smileyvery-happy:
