Latitude D830 Memory Upgrade
DIMMA and DIMMB each have one stick of 1GB RAM. I do not want to pull off all that stuff in the front of the computer in order to access DIMMA. Would it work alright to just replace the stick in DIMM2 with a 2GB stick? This would give me 3GB RAM instead of 2GB. If I pulled the front off the computer and upgraded to 4GB Windows probably won't see more than 3GB anyway.
I know memory is supposed to be installed in pairs. So what are the chances of my 3GB method succeeding?

That should work ok, we do that at work all the time with Lat D6xx and D8xx... you are right abot win xp only seeing 3 gig...sometimes 3.5 gig.

Thanks LA1. Based on your response I went ahead and ordered a 2GB RAM stick for DIMMB.

It should work...I support about 600 - 700 local D6xx and maybe 100 D8xx. + 100s more of telecommuters, The VIPs have the D830s the office workers have D620/30s ...we have maxed them to 2x 2gig memory on all D830... WE ARE NOW GETTING IN THE NEW e6400S
