Latitude E5520 LCD display problem - black screen
Hello!
Today, after a reboot the E5520 laptop LCD stopped working. I connected the laptop to external monitor and saw everything still working, just the laptop display is not working. After powering on the laptop, it seems that the LCD does turn on the backlighting for a couple of seconds a couple of times and then powers off the LCD completely.
I hooked the laptop to the external display and tried to debug.
Confused, I flashed the BIOS to A03 as there was some "black screen" mentioned in one BIOS upgrade changelog, but no help. The screen is still black.
I ran the F12 - BIST and got only the "LCD cable disconnected" error. Everything else was fine.
I opened the keyboard side and fiddled with the LCD connector that is visible, but no help. That would not make any sense either, as I did not move the laptop even an inch while rebooting. In fact, the screen might have gone black just as I was doing the reboot because I was seeing the hard disk light going still and saw the screen was black and I did a hard-reset after a while nothing was happening. This is probably coincidental.
The question is - why would a LCD go black like that as there were no physical manipulation with the laptop at all? Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi gertk,
Welcome to the Community,
Did you try to reseat (unplug and reconnect) the LCD cable? If you haven't try reseating the LCD (LVDS) cable since you got "LCD cable disconnected" error,
Use the link below from the Owners Manual to locate that cable:

If this does not help,see if your are able to access the back panel of the LCD,where the other end of the LCD cable is connected to the LCD and try to reseat it.Use this link to remove LCD panel:

Hello Gert,
I experienced the same problem: I solved unplugging the LCD cable behind the screen, pressing the golden edge of the female connector, plugging, an pressing over again with good verve. I hope this information can be helpful to someone.

Hello everyone,
It has been quite a while and I apologize for not replying to close this thread. The solution I found was kind of boring so I didn't bother to post it - I took the laptop to warranty repair and they replaced the screen and motherboard. I have no additional information what was wrong with it, so I didn't bother to post as it was not really informative. Thanks garofas for the post though, hope you have a good day.
