loading PBR2 ...done
Please someone help me!
About me:
1. I am an elderly woman and don't know much about computors (but am trying very hard to learn more!)
2. I don't speak English very well ...am from Slovenia, where I also bought my lap-top three years ago
3. I live temporrary in Holland
4. As my lap-top doesn't work I write from my husband's Dell desk PC Dimension 3100
My problem: before my lap-top (Inspiron 6000 with Windows XP) went blank, the Windows were telling me they have to shat down to save the files...after that everything was black. It only says this: loading PBR 2 ... done
When I called the help line here in Holland, they said they cannot help me as I bought lap-top in Slovenia
Than we had gone to Dell web side: Technical Support for Inspiron 6000 - error Message "Loading PBR for Descriptor". It offers three ways to resolve the error, the first two did not work, the third way I don't know how do I restore my lap-top without CD?
I remember I got some back up CDs when I bought the lap-top, but they are all in Slovenia and I won't retourne home before May ...
Does anybody know if I have any other solutions?
I hope I was clear enough with my problem and I do appologise for my poor English and spelling mistakes - spell cheching doesn't work above :((

hi, you don't say which two things you tried did not work. The first thought I have is that the hard drive has a problem. Have you tried the diagnostics? As you switch on the laptop, start pressing the F12 key up and down a few times. This should bring up the diagnostics menu, and if so try doing the test on the hard drive. It could be a corruption of the master boot record, and you would need the disk to repair this. Have you tried restoring the operating system to it's just bought condition? Now if this works it would destroy all the data (files) you have on the hard drive, have you ever backed up your hard drive. As you have access to another computer, you (or someone who would be kind enough to help) could remove the hard drive from the I6000, place it in an external caddy (2.5") and attach to another computer via USB 2.0. If you can access the drive this way you could at least get at your data. It is possible to download the manual for the I6000 from the Dell site, to your husband's computer. I would recommend this before removing the hard drive. If you decide you want to try and restore the OS to it's just bought state, you have to press CTRL F11 as you switch on, but please be aware this would destroy all your files. These are some things to think of, I would try the diagnostics first then please post back to say what happens. Either I or someone else will be willing to give further advice/thoughts.

The two things I did from that Dell technical support were first: changing the USB Controller setting to No Boot and second: disconnect All USB devices and both did not work. Yes, I have tried the diagnostic, too!As I cannot get the page again to look at, I will try to tell you what I remember: I think there were 5 possibilities, 4 of them my LT went through without problem but there was one type of diagnostic (if I remember it was the 3rd one) that said that it takes one houre to get it through. So I tried it too. At first it went rather quckly but than it jammed every one or two second and I always had to press enter to continue ...to make it short, after 6 hours sitting beside the LP I had enough and I stopped the whole thing! I just didn't have the nerves to continue...
About the backing up the hard drive I have to tell you that I tried very hard to do it last year in October, when I bought the new Norton 360, as the old one expired. But the burning of DVD just didn't want to start!!!Norton was telling me constantly to back up the hard disk and that I need three DVDs to do it, but LP just did not want to start burning...so at the end I gave up and swiched it off on Norton!! I see now that was my big mistake!!!I should have ask somebody at Dell's ...
So you see, that option to press CTRL F11 is out of the question as I need my files very badly. I too, think there is something wrong with my hard disk as it always jumpes on PBR 2 and skips PBR 1... If I understand it correctly there are three sections on Dell's hard disk?
I am sorry but I don't understand the word caddy? What is this? Unfortunatelly my English-Slovenian dictionary is on my dead LP and I cannot reach it, this PC is in Dutch that I son't undrstand ( my husband is Dutch) and the Google translater is giving me some funny results!
