Microphone setting not showing under volume control
only have volume control, wave, sw synth and cd player option available... couldn't locate micrphone. I am not able to hear my voice when I talked to the mic. This is happen on a Latitude D800, Winxp. I have changed the headset and reinstall the driver. What can I do to have microphone appear under volume control?

Open the Volume Control, then click "Options", the "Properties" then click the "Recording" radio button. That's where you'll see the different "inputs" to the machine, including the microphone.
I sometimes open two Volume Controls, and set one to Playback and one to Recording.

Well, the way it should work is that you set the "input" level on the "Recording" panel, and then you can monitor the playback level by setting one of the sliders on the "playback" panel. Seems like on other machines I've used the "wave" slider for playback level, although I might have used the overall volume slider.
My experience is with "line in" input though, not "mic" input. See my post in this forum on "D600 Audio features question".
I'm just about convinced that you cannot "monitor" microphone input. I bet it's designed for a VOIP type application, where you'd have a headset with mic, and you would not want to hear your own voice in your ear.

I install new driver (Sigmatel C-Major Audio, V. 6.14.1.3913) on my Inspiron 8600 and MIC-Playback control no appear!!!
I need KARAOKE.
