Missing touchpad tab on Mouse window from control panel
I have an Inspiron 8500 with an Alps touch pad. The right corner was set for right mouse button. This just stopped working. I went to Control Panel/Mouse to reset. Touchpad tab is missing. Went to various help panels and verified this is where I set the touchpad settings. Current driver in Device Manager is 5.4.101.17 - 11/29/02.
I downloaded most recent driver from Dell - R89598.exe
1. do I remove old driver or just update on top of it?
2. Instructions say to install new driver to C:\Dell\Drivers - this folder does not exist. Dell and Drivers are at same level at root. Current driver appears to be in apoint folder.
3. Anything I need to be careful/watch out for?
I have XP SP2. Not aware of any updates that would have caused this, but hard to tell.
thanks.

Okay, so I panicked - I rebooted and all seems normal again. I have all the tabs and the right corner works as expected. So..should I still update the driver just to have the latest? I tend to prefer not to make changes if all is working and all is working so...???
thanks

Click on Start and then Control Panel
Double Click on Mouse. You should see several tabs across the top of the Mouse window.
Click on the Gestures Tab
