My VOSTRO 1710 can't find the DVD-R drive anymore

Like the topic says, I can't see or conrol the standard DVD-R drive anymore on my VOSTRO 1710 laptop, I put in a CD, it went in but doesn't want to come out anymore due to the eject button not working anymore.

I tried to contact support through email but I'm always getting asked for a "service tag". Once I enter this tag the site tells me the tag is incorrect. I tried it about 10 times but no luck.

Can anyone help me out here? I'm not a phone person btw.

Hey,

Here are few steps which you can try...

Reboot the system and eject the CD using the optical drive´s eject button.

  1. Close all programs and restart the system.

  2. Once the system has cleanly booted to the operating system press the optical drive's eject button.

IF IT DOES NOT WORK TRY THIS...

Attempt To Manually Eject the CD In the System Setup (BIOS)

  1. Restart the system.

  2. When the Dell logo appears, press F2 until the message Entering Setup appears.

  3. In the BIOS, press the eject button on the front of the CD drive.

IF NOT...

Use the Emergency Eject Option to Open the Tray On the CD Drive

To manually eject CD drive media, perform the following steps:

  1. With the system powered down, insert a straightened paper clip into the emergency eject hole, next to the eject button.
    The tray pops open.
  2. Pull the tray out.

IF THIS DOSN'T HELPS.... THE LAST TRY WILL BE...

Remove the Optical Drive and Lightly Squeeze the Top

  1. Remove the optical drive from the options bay.

  2. Hold the drive with both hands, thumbs on top in the center of the drive and fingers under the drive.

  3. Squeeze lightly. If a light snapping sound is heard, the media disc was not firmly snapped onto the drive spindle and it was preventing the door from opening (Figure 1).

  4. Insert the drive back into the bay.

  5. Power the system on. The optical drive opens.

IF THIS IS NOT GOING TO WORK THEN THE OPTICAL DRIVE NEED TO BE REPLACED.

Thanks & Regards,

Thanx for the answer but the problem isn't so much getting the CD back out of the drive. My laptop doesn't find the drive anymore. If it finds the drive again I'm sure the CD will pop back out.

And how do I contact support without having to give my Service tag?
