NOT always audio

something happened and now whenever i put in any cd into my cdrom drive it tries to read it as an audio cd and windows media player pops up and cant read it
i put in a software cd ....wmp pops up
i put in a music cd...wmp pops up (yet it says it cant read it)
any suggestions how to fix this
i tried to delete wmp but that didnt seem to work
i tried to open an audio cd with real player and still get an error
all i really wanted to do was look at some pictures i saved to a cd but freakin wmp tried to read the cd
