not holding power

My 3 yr old dell inspiron 1150 appears to be dead.    It was slowly losing power and I brought it to a computer shop who said the battery was ok and I needed a new power supply unit which I ordered from Dell and they were able to get it running well for a month.

Now when the laptop is plugged in all I get is stuttering lights displayed, I have alot of important files in this computer and I would hate to lose alot of them but am unable to transfer with a flashdrive as the computer will not turn on for any length of time,

Please advise    I am dissappointed with this performance by a reputable company   I prefer not to spend $$$$$$$ on the line with a technician only to find our this is a hopeless case.

if you have another computer available to accept the files, simply go out and buy a USB External Case (2.5") like Vantec's NexStar... remove the harddrive from the laptop, put it into the USB Case, plug that into the computer, and copy files over.

Tigerdirect.ca or Tigerdirect.com has them for $24.99 and $19.99 respectivly ...

if you don't have another computer available buy the external anyway, and take it to a computer store, and ask them to extract the C:\Documents and Settings folder onto CD or DVD for you.  Most stores will charge around $40-70 for this depending on how long it takes, and what optical media you require.
