Omega drivers question..

Yes the Omega drivers are fine many people including myself have been using them for a while.  Ati doesn't offer notebook drivers the drivers are desktop one's that have been modified to work with mobile cards and you can't get them from  Ati.  Joe

I have used the Omega's for quite some time, and they are leaps and bound ahead of the Dell drivers, and with far fewer glitches than a DH modded ATI driver... so go for it.

I'm using the latest Omega driver based on ATI Catalyst 3.5 without any problems so far.  Prior to that I've been using the earlier versions also without any problems.

i will try them as well.....only after making sure i have backups of all my data. im in the process of figuring out how to use ghost as well to first create an image of my hdd.

there have been reports of BSODs after using "ati modded" drivers..so careful. sometimes these needed reinstalls. not scaring ya...just saying make backups regularly.

I have just installed the new Omega ATI drivers with no problems noted. If you decide to install the Omega driver make sure that you uninstall the ATI Control Panel first. It is found in ADD/Remove Programs. You can then install the downloaded drivers which will write over your old drivers. Omega has its own Control Panel for the drivers.

I tryed the Omega Drviers a few months back or so, they looked really good for pic quality but while playing some games I noticed it lagged a bit more. So i just went back to the dell drives.

 

After doing some searching I found a site with a program that edit the ATI drivers so they can be installed on the ATI mobile cards.

Download the latest ATI drivers then download this tool do as it says and install the ati drivers.

The install went fine, i have yet to test it with games as I am at work.

I purchased an ATI 9000 64mb video card from my Inspiron 5100. I tried the latest Omega drivers, and they caused some big time video artifacting. However........I also noted that the video card is only reporting 32mb of memory (in more than one program) I am using the Dell drivers from the 5150, and all is fine. A funny thing happened though, while waiting on the phone to get through to Dell about replacing my video card ( I was only on hold for about 5 minutes) I decided to check my system out again with the programs to verify the amount of reported ram. Well, suddenly I had 64mb of ram on the video card. So I tried one of my games, and I got artifacting big time again. I rebooted, and now the computer only sees 32mb of ram on the card. However, my games run good again?? Either way, Dell is sending me a replacement video card and I'll report back my findings when I get it.

My big issue with the Dell drivers were in C&C Generals: Zero Hour.  I kept getting system freezing resulting in the 4 second power off solution.  Then I stumbled onto the Omega drivers web link in these forums and also ran into the mod to install the drivers straight from the site.  So far I have only used the Omegas and there have been no crashes so far and they are so much more customizable than the Dell ones (via the control panel).  So far I am absolutely happy with them, although I do feel adventerous abou the other mod option (installer helper).
