Problem with Dell Diagnostics Partition/Software

Hi all,

I have an Inspiron 5160 notebook and I have tried to run the dell diagnostics software on the partition to check for problems which I will not discuss here.  I can start the diagnostics, it goes through the first few (memory, video card) whilst in DOS mode, then it says that it must boot from the CD.  It does so and then boots up (supposedly in windows 98) and shows the initial screen , but this is as far as it gets.  It shows a warning message stating that my notebook is "official dell hardware" or something along those lines.  IT IS, however i did buy it second hand and with a fresh version of Windows XP Pro.  I have also tried running the diagnostics utility off of the cd from within windows but to no prevail.  Any thoughts?  I simply want to run the full diagnostics.

Thanks

Might not be the correct diagnostic cd for your notebook.

If it's not working,t ry downloading a copy from the website and doing that.

I tried downloading the 32-bit diagnostics updater but this generated a problem of its own.  On trying to open the file (once downloaded) it says that it can't decompress itself.  Something I didn't mention before is that when "Windows 98" boots up with the diagnostic thing off of the CD, the error reads "Msg: SYSTEM_ERROR: ..." and then something along the lines of that my laptop is not an official Dell PC so the diagnostics cannot be run on it.  I'm really stuck, I've searched all through these forums and google but can;t find anything, or any one with the same problem.  Any help would be good...

Thanks again
