Problem with Dell driver update R141246.EXE
This update doesn't include the SD drivers (for SDHC support), it only includes xD, MS, and MMC. I found this to be true for my Vostro 1000. However, the driver update says it applies to:
Inspiron 1501
Inspiron 640m / E1405
Inspiron 9400/E1705
Inspiron 1420
Inspiron 1520
Inspiron 1521
Inspiron 1720
Inspiron 1721
Inspiron 6400/E1505R
Latitude D420
Latitude 131L
Dell Precision Mobile WorkStation M90
Vostro Notebook 1000
Vostro Notebook 1400
Vostro Notebook 1500
Vostro Notebook 1700
XPS M1210
XPS M1330
XPS/Inspiron M140/630m
XPS M1710
XPS M2010
This is quite an oversight on Dell's part. The only way I could get an updated SD driver was to download it from Ricoh. Here is some more information: Here.

AWeSOMe!
Thank you so very much...
I bought a 4gb SDHC card for my Windows Mobile phone and could not get the card to even be recognized by my Inspiron 1720. I was so frustraited because it made having the nice / higher capacity card for my phone useless because I could not transfere anything to or from it using my laptop.
I had been playing with the few different drivers for the Ricoh chipset for my system that were provided by dell and was getting no where fast. I was actually about to contact Dell Support to attempt to get help when I thought I would check the forums and see about getting help from someone that might actually know anything about what they are talking about.
I have to agree on the fact dell needs to work on their none helpfull support (both drivers and techie help).
It is pretty sad when they call a driver 6 - 7 years old as current, though I have to say that it is worse when they provide new laptops with an incomplete OS like Vista and then punish savvy people who install XP.
I usually get the line We don't support XP so you are on your own and a click anytime I contact Dell support even before they find out what kind of issuing I might be having.

This driver worked great for me -- also directly from RICOH -- Dell should test and approve this driver and get it on their website support page. I had a Kingston 4GB SDHC card -- worked in EVERYTHING I own except my M1710 -- installed the driver and good to go.
