I recieved an order from Crucial for a 2G.B. RAM kit containing 2 RAM sticks 1G.B. each DDR2 PC5300 ! I installed the RAM to Dimm 1 and Dimm 2 leaving slots 3&4 with 512M.B. sticks in each slot also PC5300. My system booted up fine gave me a prompt that new memory has been installed and a option to press either F1 or F2 to continue ! I pressd F1 and it booted to WinXP . MY ? is did I install these new 1 G.B. sticks to the proper slots ,I thought I had read somewhere you are suppose to put the new upgrade in slot 1 and 3 ,however the reason I went with the two slots I actually thought they where one and three they both had black connectors at the end of the slot and the other two slots had white ends ,I actualy thought I was installing to 1 an 3 because the way it was setup on the System Board they alternated first slot was back the one next to it was white ,then a black slot ,with white on the last one (these are the color of the tabs that lock the stick in place) . Since my system has properly reconized the RAM ,Iam assuming I installed it correctly and untill Iam told otherwise I will leave them as is ! Anyone who has anything to add ,your suggestions or comments are welcomed .

 Thank You ,Gumba Nick

It would appear that the 1gb sticks go in the "white" clipped slots, and the smaller 512 sticks should go into the "black" clipped slots.

Your manual on changing out RAM:

Hope this helps, it sounds like you have them in wrong slots currently.
