Small image size when playing DVD's

Question

I have recently taken delivery of a new Inspiron 9300. One of the reasons why I went for this model was for the large/wide screen, so that it would be good for watching DVD's.

However when I play DVD's. either using Windows Media Player or Dell Media Experience it only uses about 70% of the screen, with gaps both horizontally and vertically, so this is not an aspect ratio thing.

No doubt I can set it to play in full screen mode (well - at least I hope I can!) - but how do I do this?

In Windows Media Player, I double-click on the video to switch it between full screen and original size.

Yes - I can switch to full screen mode, and that does make it bigger, but it still does not fill the full screen. I have a black border of about 1 inch top, bottom, left & right. Any other ideas?

I´ve got exactly the same problem when playing DVDs in
Windows Media Player 10 on an Acer portable with widescreen
display, so it doesn´t seem to be connected to computer brand.
It seems like WMP first letterboxes the 16:9 movie into a
4:3 format and then places this 4:3 picture in the middle
of the widescreen computer display. (I have verified that
the DVDs really are in 16:9 anamorphic format both in a
regular DVD player and in the Acer arcade DVD player that
came with the computer, both of these display correctly
over the whole widescreen area)
Tried to fiddle around with most of the controls for WMP
and the graphic chip, haven´t found anything that helps
so a solution to this would be greatly appreciated!
