Solid orange light?
There is an orange light on my Inspiron 5160. It isn't blinking or anything. It just appears when I plug in the AC adapter (which only seems to work SOMETIMES when I plug it in).
So is it that I need a new battery? Or a new AC adaptar?
If I need a new one, can I just call Dell? I still have my warranty, I am sure. Thing is, do I need the reciept from the place I bought the laptop from?

Nope, I don't see it anywhere. And I do have the Windows CD but none of that wil work if it can't even turn on. If I take it to a technician would they be able to find the service tag? Or call Dell and give them any/all the numbers on this thing?
Or go to Ireland and talk to the Irish about this monstrosity? (It says Made In Ireland) :smileyhappy:

Sorry, but since the laptop will not power on it is impossible to boot from a CD. (And you don't need to boot to go into Setup, just POST...)
I missed that development as well.

Can you boot from windows CD? Do you have the disk that should have come with the computer?
Boot from CD, get into bios to see service tag.
Do you have any paperwork that came with the notebook?

Identical? As in same model? Because my friend also has a Dell. Just a different model.
If I take out the harddrive does that void my warranty? (If I even have one)

Removing a HD does not void the warranty. Ok, this is the one where no service tag cannot be found on the underside of the laptop, and there is no invoice showing the service tag? Right?
If your Bud has the exact same Dell model you could slip the drive in and you should see reference to the service tag in C:/Dell folder.
I know you have been asked this before, but are you SURE there is no service tag? Mine in on the bottom at the rear of the machine and is protected by a raised indent in the metal casing.
I memorized mine, because of this problem you have. Check it once more for us!
