StacSV Module Stopped Working and was closed

I have a new XPS 420 system with 64-bit Vista and the default integrated sound system.  I periodically get the message "StacSV Module stopped working and was closed".  I checked and made sure to install the latest sound drivers for the Sigmatel C-Major Audio.  It is at version 6.10.0.5511, but the problem still occurs.  Any suggestions?

I having exactly the same issue with my Dimension 9200 with Windows Vista Ultimate 64. My integrated sound car and its driver are the same as yours. I have researched the issue, but haven't found any clue. Vista "Problem Reports and Solutions" says:

"To solve this problem, go online to your computer manufacturer's website and search for Sigmatel C-Major audio driver updates."

I guess we'll have to wait for Integrated Device Technology, Inc. to come up with an updated driver. No fun at all...

Hello jmasone, I have the exact same issue, and have had since I got this system. Dell support was never able to resolve this issue.

I just exit out of this error box and the system boots and works normally.

I have downlaoded and installed the Dell drivers at least 25 times in an effort to resolve this but with no success.

It seems Dell does not care or know what the issue is or they would correct it.

Just some thoughts.

You might get more informative replies about the XPS/Dimension 420 and 410/9200  computers by posting on the Desktop Audio board. (This is the Laptop Audio board.)

I have the same issue on XPS M1530.

I am thinking about uninstalling the sigmatel driver and letting Vista find its own.  I have heard that works as well if not better.

I tried to go the route of "let Vista find it's own" and unfortunately I use a Dock for my m4300 and with out the foolish SigmaTel driver I do not get sound out of the dock.

I get this same error randomly all the time

Did you ever find a solution?

FTY, I also have a Dell XPS M1530 Vista Home Premium 64 bit.  Since I received the laptop from Dell in January of '09 I have been getting the same message... “StacSV module stopped working and was closed”.  I have to reboot to fix it.  I have also gone to Dell.com and downloaded the latest "Sigmatel C-Major audio driver" which is the same as the one already installed.
