I will not be using my laptop for about several weeks. I have been told that the best way to store is to unplug, shutdown, and then remove the battery. Is this right?
I have an old system I put in the closet. I still leave the battery installed. As long as the computer is shutdown and the lid is closed, it cannot turn on. If it was for a long period of time, then I'd remove the battery.
Battery should be above 75% charge before long term storage. Don't store batt long enough to drop below low voltage threshold or else batt will be damaged. Battery has a shelf life so there is an unavoidable storage time limit. Better to store batt in cool dry environment. I remove batt; maybe overkill. I've never had Li-Ion leak but I've had one expand. Don't forget to unplug adapter from wall. Dry environment good for laptop storage.
