Strange glitch noises when watching videos, listening to music for Dell Inspiron 1545

I'm not sure what other way to describe what is happening other than when I watch videos and listen to music, this glitch noise, or buzzing noise sounds about every ten seconds or so. I've done everything that I know, scan for viruses, reinstall software. I'm not a techie, I use my Inspiron 1545 laptop for school, music, and web, I don't put it though anything strenuous. Everything else works fine except this problem.

Thanks for your help.

Hi, after spending over a total of 6 hours with Dell Tech Support, I started doing some searching on the Community.  Rolling back the driver cured the problem.  In retrospect, I'm surprised that Dell was not aware of this very easy fix.  Thanks a lot for your post.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart, this has been driving me crazy. Dell support is supposed to come out tomorrow to replace my mother board and speakers. I'm going to call them and can cancel. It is so wonder to now to be able to listen to my music, watch videos and streaming audio again. God Bless you for sharing this fix.

Sincerely, Leta

Hope somebody figures it out soon. Seems it might be some download that caused it.

For most 1545 owners the problem was caused by a bad Microsoft update (so when you put in the new hard drive and downloaded Windows updates you probably caused that hard drive to have the same problem as the one you replaced) and a fix has been known since early November. The fix was posted earlier in this thread by The Pine, but I will post a link to the thread where the fix was originally posted.

Add me to the list Jimco. I have the same problem with Dell Inspiron 1545, Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit, SP1. Bought it Jan 2011.  My grandson reported the random annoying buzzing Sep or Oct. We don't know exactly exactly when it started, but it was Sep or Oct. I tried some minor fixes and gave up and called Dell since I had warranty. The Dell rep took it over remotely to try some fixes, but with no success. He sent a prepaid box so I could send it to the Dell Service Center in Round Rock, TX. They sent it back the same day they received it on Nov 30 2011. One letter in the return box said they couldn't hear the problem. What a bunch of bull that was. Oddly, another letter inside on the laptop keyboard said the problem was the hard drive. Said they  didn't have one, so they sent the computer back and sent me a Toshiba hardrive to replace the Samsung that came with. I replaced it today with Dell rep on the line. Downloaded all Windows updates. The noise is still there. I will call Dell in the morning and send it back to Round Rock, Tx. Lucky it's still under warranty. I wish I would have tried it before the updates. I told the rep today this seems to be a growing problem. I will give them the links to this forum. Thanks to you and all. Hope somebody figures it out soon. Seems it might be some download that caused it.

Just did it and it works on this new Toshiba hard drive Dell sent. Will put the original Samsung hard drive back in and fix it same way. Nice to have a new spare hard drive. Will tell the Dell rep tomorrow.

It is not a recent problem for everyone. I have had the issue for a while now. It has been months really. I never noticed the problem too much before since I only used this for educational purposes. I downloaded iTunes and for some reason not too long after I downloaded it the second time (an update) I started to notice it. Question for you guys, how many of us having this issue have itunes downloaded? Could this be a problem with itunes and Windows? This is getting so very old and it is making me very ill. I have the same operating system etc as you guys. Same service pack. My warranty is gone and even if it wasn't, I would be afraid the cost to send the pc back to DELL to be "FIXED" would be more than to figure it out somewhere else. I am not made of money but I will tell you that if this does not get fixed soon, I will be selling this and moving to something else. I would think if DELL could fix this we all would know a fix by now. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE keep me in the loop as well on this problem. I do use this for school and it is all web based. This is quite a hinderance.

I have a dell inspiron N7110,and i found a solution for the problem,,,,problem is in the wireless adapter, and all you have to do is to disable it,and  glitching and buzzing sound will disappear. It worked for me

You need to buy a external wireless adapter and wait for the fix to come out....

I have had this issue since August with my XPS8100 desktop.  I got an exchange system, a refurbished XPS9100 that did the same thing.  I recently got another exchange system, a refurbished XPS8300 which I just got last Tuesday and which I thought was free of the issue, but just did the stutter/buzzing thing today for the first time.  I am beyond exasperated dealing with this.  Incidentally, my fiance just bought a new Gateway with Windows 7 64 bit and his is doing it too.  We've been frantically trying to find answers and all the current suggestions haven't worked for us, although I have some kind of wireless mini card, I haven't disabled it.  If you're someone who doesn't watch a lot of videos or listen to a lot of music, it may not be that bothersome, but if you like to watch a lot of Netflix movies, this stuttering/buzzing thing happening 20 times during one movie gets really old--not to mention I've been dealing with this issue since August and still with three different machines, they all have the same issue.  It's got to be a Windows 7 thing I think and I can't believe that no one has a real fix.  I am just hoping that one day, we'll get some kind of update and realize that we haven't heard this horrible stutter/buzz and it will have disappeared.

I realize that my entry is well after most, however I only recently experienced this issue and could not find any recent posts. After trying many things, virus scans, audio updates, clean ups, restore date.....nothing worked. I found this site and came across this post and I am happy to report...IT WORKED!!!! So anyone having this problem I would happily suggest hat you try this first.

This worked like a charm for me....THANK YOU. I tried so many things and this was the only thing that solved the problem :)

Same here I think it's a windows update as my pc downloaded some automatic updates last week and ever since I get a low, quick, crackling noise...every ten-thirty secs or so....it interferes with audio and video playback...haven't a clue what it is...

plus my cursor keeps jumping back from the end of a sentence I'm typing to some other point in the sentence making it really frustrating to type...unsure whether it's a bad windows update download...

Telly0828 what did you do to fix your problem? I tried looking for that dell driver but the page could not be found, I expect its out of date by now. Big mistake that i made was to run windows update which did 825mb of updates on my pc. I then tried system restore but the only restore point available was for today when I completed the update.

The buzz sounds occur every few minutes during media player and when i use fl studio. I've also noticed that you tube videos continue playing after i press stop (not sure if this is related.) As I make music as a hobby this is really frustrating to have happen to my 11 month old laptop. Can anyone offer any alternative advice as to what to do next?

Laptop spec: Core i7 2ghz, 4 gb ram, Windows 7 home edition 64 bit. My laptop is an XPS L502X.

I found this reply to Justin from Mick Barber on MS website. It worked for me. The problem is the Windows Update released June, 2011.  Intel - Storage - Intel(R) ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller. I didn't do the Intel Rapid Storage Technology update.

Justin,

We have been discussing the same thing Here: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3517/t/19412524.aspx?PageIndex=3 , And we have found the solution to the problem, it seems that MS Update wants you to install a "Optional Update" of the Intel - Storage - Intel(R) ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller (released in June, 2011). But Intel has a more recent updated version of : Intel® Rapid Storage Technology, here:http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?ProductID=2101&DwnldID=20215&lang=eng&iid=dc_rss , and after removing the MS Updated one, and replacing it with the Intel one ( Second Link Here). The Problem was resolved and no more stuttering, buzzing at all. I did a Complete Hard Drive Wipe, Format and Fresh install of Win7 Home Premium x64, and it fixed my problem too. I did ignore MS Update for it, and installed the Intel One instead after the reformat and fresh install, Just to make sure it doesn't re-occur. So two options available to see if you get yours fixed. Good Luck to All.

Thank You,

Mick Barker Sr.

Below is an old fix from Posted by   mao.tsetung Nov 6, 2011.  Note at the end, in the update, a warning that the MS Windows Update will reappear, BUT DO NOT INSTALL IT

"I think, I might have found the solution:

I noticed a driver update installed by MS Update: Intel - Storage - Intel(R) ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller (released in June, 2011)

Then I checked the Intel Matrix Storage Manager utility on my machine and found it was outdated (version 8.9). Therefore I downloaded and installed the most recent version (version 10.6 of Intel Rapid Storage Technology which seems to have replaced Intel Matrix Storage Manager) from here:

downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx

No stuttering. Yay!

Configuration: Dell Inspiron 1545, Windows 7 Premium, 64 Bit

UPDATE: After 1 hour of playing around with the system I can confirm that the problem is gone. I noticed that MS Update now suggests the optional Update "Intel - Storage - Intel(R) ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller" again (although it is contained in the list of already installed updates. That's confusing). I don't dare to install this..."
