System standby failed HELP
Whenever I hit the "Fn Suspend" keys to suspend my system I get this message:
The device driver for the 'Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard' device is preventing the machine from entering standby. Please close all applications and try again. If the problem persists, you may need to update this driver.
I have closed all apps and tried again... still get the message. I then set it to go into standby when I closed the lid, I then closed the lid and when I opened it again the video was COMPLETELY messed up and warped and flashing on and off and I couldnt do anything. I restarted the system and everything was fine but I then downloaded the latest video driver just to be sure.
Anyway I'm still getting that error message at the beginning of my post when I want to standby so my question is, if I need a driver why did this just start happening? Also, i do not see this driver listed in the download section of the dell site so where would I get it from? And If I'm really missunderstanding something feel free to chime in as well
Need some help, Im really ignorant here

btw I have checked power management as well and all I can seem to find is different ways of making your machine go into standby (eg. when i close my lid etc) but no way of going into standby works (from start menue, closing lid, or Fn suspend)
Theres just some problem lurking inside that just needs to be fixed.... all I have to do is figure out what that problem is (not so simple a task though).
The computer iteslf seemes to think its a driver issue but that doesnt seem to be it.
I appreciate all attempts though, I'm not exactly what you'd call a computer wiz so annything anyone with a little more knowledge than me says is welcomed.

ok Im a bit ignorant but Im not quite sure where I would find "System File Checker" is that the same thing as what windows calls its "Error Checker" or are they two different things?
If so, I ran it and it also didnt fix the problem

Yes that you are but even I coulda figured that one out for myself.
I just kinda liked the Standby function, can easily get by without it, just liked it and dont like not knowing why something doesnt work. If I knew why it didnt work but still couldnt fix it I'd be ok with that, its just the whole "unknown" aspect that I dont like.

To update you on my situation; after doing System File Checker my system went to stand-by as it should on two successive occasions, however, the third time I attempted to go to standby, it once again didn't completely shut down, the HDD's shut down -- but the fans kept running and the power LED remained lit, I had to press and hold the power button 4-5 seconds for a cold shutdown. So it's back to trying to determine what caused this undesirable change in the last couple weeks.

This problem is more than likely caused by an Adobe program or Quicken. Look to see if you have Adobe Font Manager installed. If you do, uninstall it. Also uninstall Quicken if you don't use it. It sounds crazy but I run a cross this about twice a month and those programs usually cause it. Hope that helps.
