Touchpad gestures keep automatically changing to wrong settings
I have a Dell Inspirion 15r and upgraded to Windows 10 a couple of days ago. All the touchpad gestures worked fine, 3 finger swipe up for task view, 3 down for showing the desktop. Then suddenly, this automatically changed to 3 fingers up opening search. 3 fingers down opens suddenly the settings.
The settings in the Dell touchpad app were still correct though. I did a system repair, which fixed the problem. But now, this sudden change happened again. Also reinstalling the driver didn't work. Both times this happened after putting my laptop in sleep mode.
Has anyone else encountered this problem?

No, this is the only fix that has worked that I know of. If you bought a 5547 you have all my sympathy, mine has turned out to be a bit of a problem child, to say the least and I regret ever buying the thing.

found a permanent solution here:
forums.lenovo.com/.../10
"I just did Wilkster's trick too of changing the registry entry from :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTP\Defaults\AppProfiles\Google Chrome
To:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTP\Defaults\AppProfiles\Google Chrome-save
it seems to work - 3 finger swipe for task switching seems to work after sleep! Woohoo!
In my attempts to fix this issue I installed "Synaptics Gesture Suite" and that seems to restore the windows 8 gestures even when you first turn on your computer - so swiping from the left with three fingers always works as a 'back' gesture. So for anyone who wants to restore the windows 8 gestures of back and forward permenantly - maybe that's a solution they should try. "

The problem seems to be with profiles of synaptics drivers for specific programmes. When putting pc to sleep mess the profile up. What works for me at the moment (completely uninstalled the drivers and deleted any synaptics software from registry, then reinstalled in Win 8.1 compatibility mode) when this strange behaviour occurs - usually after waking the laptop from sleep, is running a BAT file you create that force quit and restarts the drivers. Open notepad and copy this:
(taskkill /IM SynTPEnh.exe /F && start /D "C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\" SynTPEnh.exe) || pause
(adjust if your installation path is different) and save as .bat file. Create a key shortcut so you can instantly run any time this happens.
Also I suggest following this thread as it seems user named Karel found something out:

Testing it now.

same error faced by me
greetings,
i was able to find the solution , i feel that problem is in driver , so to resolve the issue is to find new driver.
first find the touchpad device id using the procedure in www.wikihow.com/Find-Hardware-ID
Follow upto part II step no 3 , .once drivers are found . uninstall old one and install the new downloaded one. (it may or may not work , but in my case the driver worked and all problems resolved)

@tpadela THIS HAS BEEN THE BEST FIX YET!
PERMANENT :)
Its working after testing, restarting, sleep, hibernate, and minimizing various apps.
What I did was:
1) To make sure driver isnt the cause:
a)Uninstall the driver completely.
b) Restart.
c) Set windows such that it does not automatically overwrite the driver as described here : Tenforums
d) Install the latest Synaptics Touchpad driver from Dell's website.
e) Restart and hope it works.
2) Then as @tpadela said and Wilkster said at the Lenovo Forum just change the Name of the folders in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTP\Defaults\AppProfiles
like from 'Google Chrome' to 'Google Chrome -save'. and do this for apps you use and think can cause trouble,
and thats it save and RESTART and Hope it works for you too.
