Two External Monitors - Only one working [Lattitude E6430]

I am very very new to this and probably going to fuddle my way thru this but here goes.

I am working with our IS department in trying to get two external monitors to work from my docking station.  I have one external monitor working but not the second.  They [my IS department] have tried the "latest" drivers but still no luck in getting the second monitor to recognize the signal.  THe monitor that is not being recognized is the one connected to the blue VGA connection.  Any suggestions?

Hi  oldcastlewflorida,

Welcome to the community.

Kindly swap the monitors to isolate the issue. Also, check both the monitors with different video cable.

Let us know which docking station you are using and what kinds of ports are there on the docking station.

If you have any further queries, please feel free to contact us.

Thanks and Regards

Hi DELL-Sandeep P,

I tried your suggestions and still in same spot.

The docking station is DELL PRO3X - 19.5V - #QAD0118102730.

FYI - I was using the current two ACER monitors and things were working fine thru a HP docking station ser #CNU908XG3Y with a HP EliteBook 8530p if that helps any.  If I can get any other info please let me know or if I need to take any info back to my IS department I can do that too.

Regards,

Hi oldcastlewflorida,

I appreciate the time and effort that you took to troubleshoot the issue. Can you please let us know the model number of Monitor you are using the Latitude system.

Also, can you connect both the monitors directly to the system without using the dock one by one. this would isolate the issue between Monitor, system, dock or cable.

If you have any further queries, please feel free to contact us.

Thanks and Regards

Hi Sandeep P!

Ha!  I cant be the only guy fuddling thru this - please tell me that - Ha!

Well - both ACER Monitors - Blue Hookup P236H and the white hookup S271HL work when hooked directly to the system.  Sure they would - Ha!  Its like when I take my truck in - it stops making the noise - LOL!

Let me know PLEASE where we go from here - I haven't given up yet!

Thanks,

oldcastlewflorida

Hi oldcastlewflorida,

I appreciate the time and effort that you took to troubleshoot the issue. I understand it could be troublesome to isolate the point of failure sometimes.

As the Monitors works fine when connected directly, so we have confirmed its not an issue with the Monitor. Now, I would suggest to check with different cable before replacing the dock.

If you have any further queries, please feel free to contact us.

Thanks and Regards

Hi Sandeep P!

I did th cables and nothing changed.

This is just a thought - i do not need to use the laptop monitor - is there a way to set this where i can disable the laptop screen and just use the two monitors and thenuse the laptop for keyboard useage only?

Thanks,

oldcastlewflorida

A possible solution without using third party utilities:

Try the setting as shown in the screenshot:  set "Lid close action" to "Do nothing"

Close the lid the and the display will/should be turned off - test it.

If you still need a keyboard while the laptop is running with the lid closed you have to connect an external one

Hi oldcastlewflorida,

It might be an issue with the docking station. You can press Win+P on keyboard and select external monitor for display.

This should set the display on external monitor only. If you have any further queries, please feel free to contact us.

Thanks and Regards

I am having the exact same issue. Our desktop support replaced the monitors with two brand new 22" Dell P2213 monitors. Replaced the cables and the docking station. It worked after toggling the settings a little then went back out. Now only one monitor again and it's black and white. I docked on a known good setup that another user has and I see the same thing on his. My only difference may be we have an SSD in the laptop.

Hi KAT_MIG,

Welcome to the community.

Please let me know the model number of video card installed on the system. Also, check these Monitors individually without the dock to ensure its not an issue with the Monitor or cables.

If you have any further queries, please feel free to contact us.

Thanks and Regards

Hi there,

I have a similar problem with a E6430 and a Dell P2212H monitor.

When I plug it first to the docking station and then start the computer (lid closed), the screen (P2212H) seems to start correctly and then freezes with diagonal lines.

When I open the lid and then start the computer (plugged to the docking station), the screen of the computer displays correctly, and the P2212H isn't recognized at all.

When I take the computer off from the docking station and start it with the screen plugged directly to the computer, it is not recognized either.

When I plug another computer to the docking (E5430), it's working well.

I tried to install the driver from the CD. Here is the message:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The following connected monitors have been detected:
AU0 Plug and Play Monitor - AU0193C

Grivers for the following monitors have been found:
Dell P2212H (Analog) - DELA07F
Dell P2212H (Digital) - DELA07F

Drivers for the following connected monitor can be installed:
None

Please connect your monitor before using this program.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The monitor is connected.

Does anybody have idea about this issue?

I have similar problems with two of our E6430 and external monitors connected to the docking station. The first one, which I've since resolved, would not turn the monitors on when using the DVI connector and the Displayport-to-DVI connector. I upgraded drivers, downgraded drivers, deleted drivers and nothing helped. I then removed the Displayport-to-DVI adapter and connected the monitor using a VGA cable with the other monitor still on the DVI connector. Both monitors are now working with that system.

I tried the same setup with the second E6430 and it WILL NOT TURN ON THE MONITORS. I've tried different cables, different drivers, different docking station. Nothing works. This laptop has one external monitor currently but the user has asked for a second and I have yet to find a solution.

In my case updating drivers and removing a third party tool called multimon taskbar solved my issue. No idea why it disappeared with multimon but it came back when I removed that item. Must have been a conflict

I too am having this issue.

My current set up is

My E6430 Dell Laptop "open" on a Dell  Eport Plus II, Model# Pro 2X dock

with a Dell P1913 monitor plugged into #1 DVI on the dock and a Dell P1913 Monitor plugged into #2 DVI on the dock

I have tried using HDMI port and VGA port on the dock as well and I can only ever get my display to extend to one of the monitors regardless of port combination.

I have the Intel HD 4000 graphics card.

I have verified my cables are working.  I have updated to the latest driver from the Dell auto scan driver update from Dell's website.

The third monitor shows up in my windows display properties but cannot save any changes when I attempt to extend my desktop to the third monitor.  I also cannot duplicate to the third monitor.  I can extend to the second monitor without issue.

The documentation I've read says this should work.

How can I get this to work?
