Unknown adapter DATA Transistor
Hello
I have an Inspiron 8500 and the same problem as many people here have. Unknown adapter. In my case the main culprit was not Dell...it was my gf. She broke that center pin when she tried to plug the adapter. And as everyone knows that pin is responsible for adapter identification. I cut the plug i solder a new pin (a needle) but still unknown adapter. Then I opened the brick. I don't know why no one try that.
I just wanted to know what is with this center pin!! To what it connects to.
Well it connect to a transistor or a diode that looks like a cube with 3 legs
The wire is connected to only one leg .This is very easy too see
I asked a friend who know a little about electronics...he measaured the transistor or diode and he told that this thing is surely DEAD.
Somehow that thing (if it works) puts around 4Mohm in that center pin. I read this in a post somewhere
So i'm pretty sure that this is problem in many cases.
On that transistor is wrote DALLAS 2501 0250c4 041aa.....not in this order but each group under the other
Maybe somebody can find this in a catalog buy it and try to solder.
I'm very curios about this.

One friend told me that he had almost the same situation but with an ac Dell adapter PA-13 for a laptop Inspiron 5150.The little third central pin was bented then it touched the interior wall ,after that , the pin was straightened but, when the conector was connected to the laptop it didn't work. The two leds that indicates both, battery charge and the adapter presence, were iluminated but they turned off inmediately. The last situation it hasn't changed each time he has treaty to turn on the laptop.The element conected with the pin has the caracteristic #
DALLAS 2501 0328C4 628AA
It has 3 legs, one extreme leg is conected to the negative terminal, the middle leg is conected to the little pin and last leg is not conected. With a d.c. tester between the two conected legs there is a 0.6 ohms in forward, and infinity en reversa. Then the elemt looks like a diode. I think it is a zener diode. Between the pin and ona wall of the conectro there is 17.5 volts. and between the two wall of the conector the rigth 19.5 volts, just the voltaje that needs the laptop in order to work, but the laptop don't recognize the ac adapter. Does anybody knows what kind axactly elemt it is? In what manual can I find it?
