Upgrading Nvidia Graphics Driver

Hi Wolfenstein..

I have my resolutions settings at just what you said and the color at 32bit.  I guess the only way I would know if this was the problem when I tried to install updated driver, is to install it again and then check my settings and see if they have changed.  At least now I would know what to set them back to.

Do you know why my Macros sometimes come up in the blue font like body of message, and sometimes in different black font like above?  If you notice my earlier posting in this thread, some are blue and some are black.  Not that it really matters, just wondering.

I reformatted my 8200 and reinstalled Windows XP Professional.  Ever since, I have been unable to upgrade the GeForce 4 GO drivers to anything other than the ones from DELL.  I do have the latest NVIDIA driver that DELL provides but I would like  to upgrade to the latest from NVIDIA.  Prior to rebuilding my system from the ground up, I was able to upgrade video drivers just fine. 

When installing the newest drivers from NVIDIA it appears that the install goes well but it doesn't install any of the updated dll's into the c:\windows\system32 where the drivers reside.  Why am I unable to update my GeForce 4 GO drivers to the latest ones from NVIDIA Corp.

This post is similar to some on this board but I didnt' see an answer to it posted.

Just wait - overclocking your GF2G will put you in the market for the GF4G sooner than you think.

Oh, I'm well aware of the dangers but after 10 consecutive 3DMarks 2001SE benchmarks the CPU was at 65 and GPU at 55C (I8KFanGUI on)... Plus I do have a spare GF2Go in the box. It's just that over 15% hike in performance - from 2200 3DMarks to 2540 - just by moving virtual sliders slightly higher was a very tempting proposition (bearing in mind the risks, of course ).

One also has to remember that I bought Dell Inspiron as the only laptop (at the time) capable of running Warbirds/Aces High with a decent framerate. And the framerate means life...

Just wanted you to know I tried to install the 41.09 update again, and it worked just fine.  My screen resolution settings didn't have anything to do with the problem I had the first time.  The only thing I did different was to click on NO to install, then disabled anti virus program, then clicked YES to install.  The first time I didn't click NO, I just disabled the anti virus program and clicked YES.  Don't know if this was the problem, or if there was just a glitch in the download.  Whatever, it seems to be working just fine.  However, before I installed I got a screen saying other nVidia drivers were detected on my system.  They recommended I uninstall them first.  HOW???  I can not find them anywhere except in my Local Disk C: file folders.  All I can do there is delete the file, which I don't believe uninstalls anything.  They are not listed in my Add/Remove programs, where I could uninstall them.  NVIDIA is listed but I don't know if that will remove all my drivers or if it will give me the options to select individual ones.  I'm afraid to click on Remove without knowing.  Got any suggestions?  Everything seems to be working just fine without uninstalling anything.  Thanks.

I noticed that someone else posted a question in this regard, as well, but I did not see an answer. 

I am having difficulty installing the updated driver software that I downloaded directly from NVidia.  I get problems with the display after I install them, though.  It seems that the only drivers that work are the ones I download directly from Dell.  But these drivers are nearly a year old.  Does anyone have any options or answers to this problem?

I had display problems after I installed the download the first time.  Then I tried again and no problems.  The only thing I did different the second time was to change the steps I took to disable my Norton Anti Virus program.  I'm just a beginner at all of this, so I don't know if this will help you at all.  It worked for me.  Your problems probably go beyond such a simple fix.

Where can I find the geforce2 go driver update that is not supplied by Dell

I have the nVidia GeForce2 GO, v.29.64, A15 version -- but would like to get a better verison if available.

I was going to download straight from the nvidia website, but it states "NOTE: GeForce2 Go and GeForce4 Go mobile processors are not supported in this driver. Please contact the notebook's manufacturer for graphics drivers for your notebook PC."

Add/remove program does not remove all the nvidia driver components.  Neither does "uninstall driver" under Device Manager.

I had to physically delete all the nv*.* files in Windows\system directory and delete the nv folders in the Registry.

Worse yet, if you ever installed the Dell 29.63 driver, it keeps reinstall itself even in safe mode as Dell 8200 (I have an i8200).  The way to get rid of it is to do a search in the Registry for "Dell 8200" and delete all the keys it is in.  Especially there is a folder in the Registry call "Reinstall."  There are subfolders in it and are numbered 0000, 0001, 0002, etc.  One of them corresponds to "Dell 8200."  Delete it.  Also there is a subdirectory under Windows directory, also called Reinstall.  There are sub-subdirectories correspond to the numbers in the Registry.  Theycontain the driver components.  Delete the sub-subdirectory with the same number as in the Registry for Dell 8200.

I went to Add/Remove to uninstall previous nVidia drivers, and I still got the message that there were nVidia drivers detected in my system.  Did you notice the posting from .  I know I'm not going through all that.  I installed the updated driver 41.09 win2Kxp anyhow.  I hope this will not harm my laptop!  It seems to be running just fine.  I did notice it seems to run a little hotter after it has been on for awhile.  Is this normal?  In some of your previous postings, I notice your talked about your system being overclocked and using 18kFangui to keep your system running cooler.  Is this anything I should be looking into?  Where do I look to find out the temp my laptop is running at?  What is overclocked?  I find this all very interesting, and would like to know more.  My main concern, however, is that I'm not doing any harm to my system by installing the updated driver without uninstalling the previous drivers!  I would appreciate any info you could give me!

Hi everyone. This is my first post here and I'm not quite sure what info you need to answer my question so I'll just include what seems relevant:  I have a Dell 4550 Dimension with 256 MB ram and 2-52 GHz, Pentium 4 processor. My graphics card is Nvidia GeForce4 MX 420 and the current driver is the 52.16.

I recently downloaded a program (The Arnold Palmer Course Designer) which doesn't function as it should. When I asked for help in the forum at that site I was informed that it was a driver issue; that the 52.16 driver was known to corrupt the program. It was suggested that I replace it with the detonator 45.32 driver. I downloaded that driver but when I went to install it, I got a message that 'other Nvidia drivers have been detected on my system' and that I should uninstall them before installing the 'new' one.

Logic tells me that uninstalling one driver before installing another would leave me temporarily with no driver at all and I find that thought troubling so I am asking for instructions as to how to go about making this change without compromising my system. Thank you.
