Volume control buttons are not working

I have a Studio 1537 and the volume control buttons above the keyboard have stopped working properly.  When I turn on my computer, they do not respond at all, after about 10 minutes either the volume increase button or the eject disc button will act like it is being held down (leading me to almost never use the audio on my computer), after that, the buttons will work as they normally would, but whenever I start the computer back up again, the problem will return.  Please help.
