Vostro 1400

On the configuration page the Vostro 1400 can be configured with 3GB of Dual Channel RAM using 2 DIMMS.  According to the manual, to run in dual channel mode both DIMMS must be the same size.  And since you can only put in 512MB, 1GB, and 2GB DIMMS, how is it possible to have 3GB of dual channel memory?

It isn't possible.

How did this happen?  Marketing goofed (They don't understand the RAM modules MUST be matched for Dual Channel Mode)

I believe it should be 1gb, 2gb, 4gb

Silly isn't it?

I submitted feedback to the Site admin, all Vostro Portables list either 1.5 or 3 gb options on the USA site.  It will work, but not dual channel.

Newer boards support dual channel using sticks of different size (Intel's flex mode).
