Warning: The battery cannot be identified error message

Started receiving the error message at startup

"warning The battery cannot be identified. This system will be unable to charge this battery press any key to continue"

I did search the Internet and this forum but have not find any workable solution. My latop came with BIOS version 2.1.0 A07, tried to refresh the BIOS with the same version, and higher versions all the way to version A15 but no luck.

The battery does hold charge and the message disappear if I remove the battery and bootup with the AC adapter alone.

OS vista 32 bit
Laptop: Inspiron 1501

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Hy..

I fixed my problem with the message "Warning: The battery cannot be identified"

....The problem is not the Bios....I replaced the old battery with a new one (1600 mAh)...and it's not even original....and the message is gone! My laptop works great....just as before! The battery holds for about 5 hours!!! :emotion-11:

My notebook had the same issue that the warning message. What I did is updated the bios version.

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R174470&SystemID=INS_PNT_1501&servicetag=&os=BIOSA&osl=en&deviceid=13120&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=9&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=1&fileid=236967

As per the information from community forum, I downloaded this bios version and saved on to my desktop.

Then I closed all my browsers and right click on this downloaded new bios version 2.6.3(file name is  Win1501263) and run as administrator. If you jsut double click on this , it will say that user does not have permission to run this program. So, right click and run as administrator. Then a command prompt opens and close followed by a small window showing the status of bios flashing. It will check for compatibility then back up the existing bios version and flash memory. May be in 1 or 2 min. Once if finish this it will reboot there will not be any more that warnign message.

My problem has solvd with this.

Thanks to dell. My appreciation to the big man, Mr. Micheal Dell.

Any questions, get back to me.

I'm dealing with this problem as well on a Inspiron 1525.  I was able to create a USB boot disk, and upgrade the BIOS to the latest version (A17), but the problem is still there.  I'm thinking about maybe downgrading the bios to the oldest version to see if that helps.

Is there a "magic" version that resolves this problem?

Edit:  It looks like the problem wasn't the BIOS, or the battery.  I have more than one charger, and one that was giving me the problem was a 90W charger.  Plugged in a 65W charger, and the BIOS recognized the charger, and it's charginng the battery.  I ended updating the BIOS to the latest version (A17) and it's charging the battery fine.  So, for some of you guys, a new charger may resolve your problem.

I'm also having the same warning sign on my Studio 1555. Tried updating the Bios, not working... Tried a different power supply which is working on the other laptop, no luck... Sigh... Been browsing over the internet about this and seems like it happen to Dell laptops only...?

I have also run diagnosis on the battery and bla bla bla... and all reported to be in working condition... Sigh...

Hi Everyone, I too have a Inspiron N7010 laptop (purchased 8/2010) and am having the same issues:  Warning:  The battery cannot be identified. This system will be unable to charge this battery.  I've run all of the Dell Diagnostic Tools and every one of them passed.  Before I spend a whole bunch of money on a battery or adapter can anyone please suggest what I should do first?  I tried to update the BIOS driver but it wouldn't flash because it needed at least 10% battery in order for it to update.  Also I've noticed that the adapter plug is a little loose and the cord wants to come out easily, could that be the problem?  Thanks in advance for any help on this problem.

I tried to update the BIOS driver but it wouldn't flash because it needed at least 10% battery in order for it to update.

The BIOS fix fopr this issue was only for certain model laptops. The N7010 was not one of those laptops, so a BIOS update would likely not solve your issue.

Before I spend a whole bunch of money on a battery or adapter can anyone please suggest what I should do first?

Since it is so new, I would assume it is under warranty. I would contact Dell.

I have the same trouble.  My new battery not recognised, wont be charged.  I have upgraded BIOS, in vain.  I have bought a new charger-to no avail.

Kindly assist.  Its a DELL STUDIO 1536

All I had done was upgraded by BIOS.just follow the instruction that comes with the bios upgrade. You can down load this bios and install it..

Couldn't update the bios because it required at least 10% battery power and wouldn't update with it just plugged in the wall.  Ended up ordering a new battery and then was able to update bios, no more error messages now :)  Everything is all good now.

I ended up getting a new battery and then was able to update bios.  I don't have any more error messages now.  Not sure what else you can do.  Hopefully the charger will help, mine gets awefuly hot, I'm wondering if I should get a new one too!

My sons little used 2008 Inspiron1525 has always worked perfectly until he dropped it today.  It was not switched on or plugged into the Dell 90w psu. There was no obvious signs of any damage but the blue charging light has stopped working and the battery, which was replaced about 8 months ago with a new 9 cell Dell, would not charge. After a couple of minutes the status changed to 'battery could not be recognised'. Unplugging the psu resulted in instant off. The BIOS are A17 and the battery is in excellent condition.

I followed someone's advice and removed the battery and psu, held down the power button for 5 -10 seconds then refitted the battery. This seemed to fix all the problems but after a few minutes, the blue charging light went out at 77% charge and although the psu is powering the laptop, it is not charging the battery (plugged in, not charging). Repeating the procedure only allows charging for a about 4 or 5 minutes before the problem returns. The current battery state is 89% and plugged in, not charging. Any advice appreciated.

Update: Sitting here writing this I notice the blue charge light has started to flash on and off every few seconds, all be it in an irregular fassion and the battery appears to be charging as it is now 96%. So for now, it appears to be working normally again. Aren't computers wonderful, I love mine! :emotion-1:
