Windows 7 and Dell Bluetooth 355 driver

I have a dell xps m1330 with the above bluetooth module inside.  I recently updated to windows 7 rc1 (64 bit) and everything is working great except for this.  i cannot seem to find a driver that will get this to work.  Has anyone had any luck getting their bluetooth module to work with windows 7?  any help is much appreciated.

For some reason the dell ftp site isn't letting me download that file properly; it's supposed to be 61mb but I can only get a binary file of a few kb. Any chance you've still got the file knocking about somewhere and can share it? Much appreciated either way, I've been puzzling over this since I upgraded recently.

I used the Update Driver in Device Manager and it loaded a Broadcom driver version 6.3.5.430 dated 4/8/2010.  While it works with my keyboard and mouse it does not work well with my blackberry 9650.  I can connect, but cannot synchronize via bluetooth.  All of the drivers for the blackberry smartphone is loaded but only works via the usb cable.  The connection via bluetooth works with some of the phone functions, none of which I use, such as the phone acting as a modem.  Has anyone else seen this problem and is there a solution?

1) Bring up device manager:

A) Press the Windows button (orb, whatever) or hit the Windows Key.

B) Type "devmgmt.msc" [RETURN]

2) Locate and open the Dell Wireless Driver

A) Click on the arrow to the left of "Bluetooth Devices"

B) Find: "Dell Wireless 355 Module with Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR"

C) Double click on it.

3) Fix the problem (mostly)

A) Select the "Power Management" tab and clear the checkbox that says "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"

B) Select the "Driver" tab

C) Press the "Disable" button and say "Yes, I want to cause this device to stop stop functioning." [actual wording may vary ;-)]

D) When you hear the "Device out notification sound", Press "Enable".

E) You should hear the "Device in notification sound".

F) Press "Escape".

G) Rock on.

Step "3A" gets rid of the problem of bluetooth stopping after some period of time. The rest of the procedure is to get it working without cycling power. This process will result in it working most of the time. I still find that I sometimes have to do steps 1, 2, and "3B-G" after closing the lid on my laptop.

Hmm. If I hit the Windows key, type power options, and select "Change what what closing the lid does", I see that it now says "sleep." I'll bet ifI change that to "Hibernate" the last remaining problem will go away...

...Well, the mouse came up hot!!! (aka working). So, why don't you try that?

FORGET THE DELL DRIVER SITE, Broadcomm, Microsoft and the other solutions listed et al.  I was tearing my hair out until I finally found the perfect solution: Bluesoleil 8 by IVT. It works wonderfully and has many functions not found in either Windows or Dell!

For Windows 7 use:

Latitude

http://ftp.us.dell.com/network/R231570.exe

Inspiron

http://ftp.us.dell.com/network/R226750.exe

For XPS or other models try either of the above.

For Windows 8 use:

Dell xps M1210 with the Dell 350 bluetooth as reported in Device Manager -> Bluetooth Radios section. Win 7 x64 replacing Vista x32.  I downloaded R226750.exe from Dell and ran it as administrator. Although this driver package is for the Dell 370 bluetooth, it is for Win 7 x32 and x64 as reported on the download website.  I did the above after first uninstalling Widcomm Bluetooth Software from Programs and Features, uninstalling all four of the Bluetooth entries in Device Manager and rebooted.  Those four devices then reappeared before running R226750:

Bluetooth Radios:
Dell Truemobile 355 Bluetooth + EDR v 6.1.7601.17889 (6/21/2006)
Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator v6.1.7601.17889 (6/21/2006)
Network Adapters:
Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network) v6.1.7600.16385 (6/21/2006)
Bluetooth Device (RFCOMM Protocol TDI) v6.1.7600.16385 (6/21/2006)

The installation indicated it was installing "WIDCOMM Bluetooth Software" into c:\program files\WIDCOMM\Bluetooth Software. Also during the installation a "Driver Software Installation" window opened up and showed the following drivers installed:
Bluetooth remote control (three occurrences)
Bluetooth hands free audio (two occurrences)
Bluetooth L2CAP Interface (two occurrences)
Bluetooth AV
Bluetooth AV remote control target

After it was done and a reboot done the exact same drivers reappeared, i.e. R226750.exe did not change those in any way, especially not from 355 to 370 Bluetooth.

That was all.  Widcomm Bluetooth Software v6.2.0.9600 was reported in Programs and Feature.  I did not note what version was there before the update.

I was successful adding a Fusion BT-100 device that connects via the RCA AUX inputs of a Fusion marine radio MS RA-205.  I had no trouble adding the BT-100, at which time three drivers were installed automatically:

Bluetooth AV
Bluetooth Remote Control
Bluetooth AV Remote Control Target

I was asked to set whether there was a display, which there wasn't, and the BT-100 appeared as a headphone.  This way I could pay music from my computer through the radio using foobar on the laptop.

I have a sneeky suspicion that I could have just used a very modern program, SetupBtwDownloadSE.exe from http://www.broadcom.com/support/bluetooth/update.php that I tried earlier but did not run as administrator.  I used it successfully on an ASUS netbook running Win 7 x32 and it installs a much later version of WIDCOMM Bluetooth Softare.  But what I have now works, and I don't care to mess around any more!
