WXGA 8600 screen resolution problem
On my WXGA 8600, I need to be able to switch to "unstretched" XGA without having an external monitor or projector attached. How?

Well, naturally, right after I posted my note I figured it out myself. Here is how I set up my WXGA 8600 (with 32MB nVidia GeoForce Go5200 video) to display "real" unstretched XGA upon switching the res to 1024x768, whether or not there is a monitor or projector attached...
WITH EXTERNAL VIDEO DEVICE PRESENT AND TURNED ON
display properties - control panel
advanced - button
GeForce FX Go5200 - tab
nView Display mode - selection in side menu
device settings - button
screen adjustment - selection in pull down menu
in device adjustments dialog - use centered output - selection
display properties - control panel
advanced - button
GeForce FX Go5200 - tab
flat panel display - selection in side menu
use centered output - button
