XPS15 L502X: Realtek HD Audio Manager eats 13% of CPU

I have a spanking new XPS15 L502X with Core I7-2720QM and 8GB of memory. My task manager reports that the Realtek HD Audio Manager is constantly eating 13% of my CPU. My audio features (sound is on) are turned on but I am not processing any audio. Isn't this resource consumption a bit much? Do I have a faulty setting? Any suggestions?

Thanks...  Today I noticed same problem on my new XPS 17..

Entering the 2 missing keys worked like a charm.  Problem solved.

This worked perfectly!  I had to keep on freezing this process in order for the CPU usage to calm down, but this did the trick.  Thanks!

Thank you for posting this!!  That service was sucking up 25% CPU usage on my Dell XPSz. Was loud & making me batty. This fixed it. Thanks!

Dear cheshirecat179,

I tried your advice! and the CPU power-eating, and all associated headaches, faded away in an instant.

THANKS SO MUCH

I know that this topic is way old, but I'm having the same problem. Actually I've been having it for awhile now and finally decided to do something about it, It only occurs when the computer has been on for over a day, and all I ever do is restart the computer and the problem stops. I tried the registry solution, but the SRS Labs and APO files are already in my registry, so no go for me.

Same here. My computer is pretty new and the SRS labs and APO files are already there and I'm not sure what to do. I would love to fix this problem.

The SRS labs & APO are NOT files but Registry entries.   There may be anerror to the Registry entry.   Be sure they are entered in your registry exactly as stated.

Repeating the instructions again here:   (Backup your Registry first.)

"Click the Windows Orb button thing (Start Button)

In the search bar, type regedit

Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE

Right click "SOFTWARE" and left click "New", then "Key"

Name it "SRS Labs" (without quotes)  - that's one

Next, right click "SRS Labs", left click "new" then left click "Key" again

Name it "APO" (without quotes)

once you do this, it should get rid of the processor usage."

Close Regedit.

ReBoot.

It should work.

Yup they are in there exactly like that.

Try the following:

1) If you haven't try removing from Start-Up via msconfig.

2) Turn off process in Task Manager.

3) Re Install the Realtek audio driver.

I would also suggest uninstalling the entire software suite. If you're running Windows 7, you may want to try letting Windows install it's own audio driver without all the other crap that goes along with it (if that's an acceptable solution for you).

I'm the original dude that posted the fix- not sure why i couldn't log in. whatever.

I'm running the bare minimum windows driver without all the other software and it's been running perfectly.

C---Cat,   good of you to chime in.

I looked into Realtek's web page and found there is an updated version to the Realtek driver.   I have not tried it as my system is working good.   But it may be worth giving it a whirl.   I believe there are also instructions for installing it - sometimes these drivers from the originator are a little quirky on Dell systems.   So a proper install is best.   Dell is notoriously behind the curve on updating its drivers and modding those third party drivers as well.

That helped me!!

Took a while to find it....I wish someone had explained how to look for the object that was actually using my CPU (i know i should have known that already, but i didn't.....Resource Monitor...duh).

Found it was the RealTek and then did the registry fix above and ... FIXED!  Thank you so much!
