Battery issues on Latitude D600

I have a Latitude D600 laptop with battery issues.  At first, the original battery worked fine.  Then suddenly, it didn't work, and the indicator light flashed several times fast red, and then once long green.  It showed the battery as 'On line, critical' and would not charge.  I purchased a new battery.  This battery worked fine until it ran out of power, but will not charge.  With this one the battery indicator light is never on, and the battery status is shown as '0% charge, idle'.  If you could help me out, or give me any ideas of what to try, I would be appreciative.

Assuming the system works fine without the battery, you need to have the main system board replaced.

I tried to flash the BIOS, but it gave me a message: The battery and ac adaptor must both be plugged in.  They both were plugged in, but it wouldn't do it.

I have exactly the same problem.

First they told me it was the adaptor, i replaced it and now it stil does not work.

I do get the notice that the adaptor type is unkown (althoug it is a standard dell adapter)

Can anybody help on this?
