How to replace the backlight of LCD

Did a quick Google search and came up with the following links

Seems like a whole lot more trouble then it is worth. Seems like it is just as easy to return it to dell and/or take it to a discount computer repair shop.

Most local computer repair shops have the same attitude about backlight replacement that you have:  they consider it not worth the trouble and they will have you change the entire LCD screen (which will set you back by twice or more the cost of a backlight replacement).  You can get the backlight replaced at various places like www.ccfldirect.com, www.moniserv.com, www.midwestlaptopparts.com, etc.  Also do a google search, but make sure you choose a shop that does backlight replacement rather than LCD screen replacement if you only want backlight replacement.
