Installing XP
I currently own a Dell xps M1530, running Windows Vista. Unfortunately some of the programs i am trying to run (such as Microstation etc...), that are necessary for the course i am taking at Uni - Architecture, these programs unable to operate/execute in Windows Vista, on my old machine (running XP), they ran perfectly.
SO my plan is to install xp on my new laptop, but is it possible to install xp on a new laptop that was setup on vista. ARe the drivers compatable with xp?
I am aware, that this will void my warranty, and i will loose all my files and programs, but it is ok as i have them backed up.
As i understand all i have to do is set up the computer to boot from cd (with windows xp disk inserted), then over-write the partitioning space on the drive for vista, so that xp replaces it, and that should be about it.
Will all this work on this laptop?

People do it all the time, and no, it doesn't void your warranty, they just wouldn't give you support help for it. It's a pain though since the system was never offered with XP.
Are you SURE this program won't run in Vista? Have you tried using compatibility modes and giving it admin rights?
If that doesn't work, does this program need 3D video card access? You might consider installing XP into the free Virtual PC, and installing this program into that, rather than having to try to set up XP and dual boot.
