Memory Dump - Latitude D600

Question

If I try and access the display settings tab on my Latitude D600 I get a blue screen and physical memory dump with the error DRIVER_UNLOADED_WITHOUT_CANCELLING_IMPENDING_OPERATIONS. I called Dell and they told me to do a format and reinstallation which I did and I still have same problem. I called back and they told me to do the same again which I refused. I was then told to download the file M92KA03B.exe which is the updated video drivers (18Mb!!!) I installed this and now I get another error stating 'The ATI Control Panel failed to initialize because no ATI driver is installed, or ATI driver is not working properly'. I called Dell again and we did a hardware check (diagnostic via F12 on startup) and it all came back clear. I was told another format and reinstall was necessary!!!!   I have had this problem with other D600s, mainly when connecting them to external projectors where they do a memory dump or when using them off the docking station and I found that changing the primary video card from 'dock video card' to 'system' fixed this problem but not this time.   Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance!

I will be interested to see what happens with this issue as I'm having a similar problem with my D600.

Out of curiosity, can you cause the BSOD any other way? For instance, mine occurs if I try to undock my laptop.

Also, it always dumps when I start Netmeeting (conf.exe) and when I attempt to run Microsoft Virtual PC 2004.

Well, I finally broke down and formatted and reinstalled AGAIN.  This time, I only loaded the drivers off of the Dell Support Disk that came with the D600.  Everything seems to be working fine now!  When I had rebuilt the machine previously I tried going back to the oldest driver available online, and that was still having issues.   If you want more info as far as the version of driver that I currently have installed, let me know.  Enjoy your two weeks off!

Hi, got this problem sorted without having to do a total rebuild. the problem was that the original hardware profile was damaged. I couldn't fix it using the registry editor or delete it so I started up the PC on the docking station - it created a new 'docked' profile which is OK, and that allowed me to delete the original 'undocked' profile.  Shutting down and restarting the PC off the docking station made it create a new 'undocked' profile which works, and the new video drivers seem to be OK.
